  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc 2013 WR300 Timing issue?

Nemisnemo

Husqvarna
Hey there!

I have a WR300 2013 that seems to have everything it needs to start.
It backfires and kicks back, and only starts if its cold after maybe 900 kicks.

Its got 150psi of compression
0.8mm base gasket
Brand new piston
Crank bearing seems good, no up/down play
crank seal (atleast on stator side) seems fine

Good spark (With the lights disconnected) Without the lights disconnected its a bit meh
Woodruff key is fine
Tried several plugs, new and old.

Clean carb with a 40 pilot jet.
Carb is getting fuel
No obvious air leaks such as a cracked intake.
Maybe 3 week old fuel.
Reeds don't have any visible faults.

I'm kicking the way you're supposed to. TDC and all.

I'm thinking its timing at this point but id like to ask what you guys think it could be.
Do you think i should get a HPI system for it?

Thanks in advance for replies :)

Try a fresh sparkplug wire and NGK silicone waterproof plug boot. Don't kick from top dead center. Bring starter down about a third of the way before kicking. The WR300 is a finicky starter. Haven't used my 300 for a while, but it worked much better with a #80 starter jet, 37 pilot and a JD Tuner kit complete with a different slide.
And make sure that the kickstarter is mounted as high as it can go for maximum kick travel. Kick starter shaft should just be touching the expansion chamber ever so slightly.

Its got a brand new plug "hat", But not cable.

Do you think the ignition kit could get rid of the "finicky starter"? And the JD kit is hard to find for my exact model from Europe.
Ive been kicking this bike so much in so many different ways. Literally the times ive had the most luck is when ive been kicking it from off of the bike (Literally kicking, not stomping the kickstarter)

I wonder what starter jet i have in it. Havent checked, likely original.
Ill give your suggestion a shot! Tho i have my doubts.
