  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2014 te 511 high pitched whistle at speed.

Husqvarna
Pro Class
So recently while cruising at 60mph-65 on the freeway the bike is developing a high pitched electrical sounding whistle. It is very audible. Not as loud as the super loud exhaust but it is faint yet audible.

Pulling in the clutch and returning the engine to idle it persists. After awhile the noise dies out. If i stay off the freeway it never develops. It really is quite loud sounds like a dieing fuel pump or something.

I really cant narrow it down more than that at this point.

Independent of engine rpm

Sustained speed triggers it

independent of speed once triggered.

It is more like after a certain amount of time it stops, if you slow or speed up it continues then after a bit stops.

Seems to continue indefinitely at high speed.

It was a cool evenings both times i have heard it. No odd performance issues everything seems normal.

Bike has 2500 miles on it and supermoto wheels.

I am thinking maybe i should check my stator bolts at this point.

You'll have to pull the clutch and kill the engine when you hear it again. See if it stops immediately with the engine off

I will do this tomorrow.

Is there anything electrical that could be that loud? My bike is very very loud. The noise just dies out like a electrical part turning off.

I checked mine with about 1570 and the stator bolts were solid. After the nightmare stuff I saw others go through it seemed a prudent thing. Though I don't think anyone described it that way.

Oh right....i flipped that over at one point in its life.

Have you heard of them making noise? What about the fuel pump does it ever change pressure or load?

Stator bolts would have to be engine rpm related. This sound is exactly the same at 7k or 2k idle.

Man it sounds electrical :/ like a whistling whining noise.

Definitely a bike problem not helmet related. I did replace the headlight bulb? Went from a fancy led junk to a automotive h4 bulb. Last ride it did it also with the new headlight bulb....but thats crazy right? Does it high or low beam also.

Also it starts at high speed, then i slow down it persists, pull the clutch in while coasting at a lower speed and all the sudden the noise just dies out. :/

But i can do third gear wheelies at high rpm slam gears ride all crazy and no noise. Only high speed freeway riding. It turns on then goes off.

I know its of no help but mine has always whined like it has a supercharger on it! Love that sound

And out of left field, in the electrical parts, voltage regulator? On the engine side, bearing going bad, or for that matter bearings in the wheels? If it ain't done it before, I'd park it and start checking stuff, dump the oil and look at magnets and screens, etc.

just changed oil before I rode it last night. It did it the previous ride also.

I dont understand how the noise could just....stop.

Also cannot seem to figure out what electrical piece would make that kind of noise.

Fan? Those things have bearings, I think. Dried out spedo cable -- do we have mechanical spedos? I've also had bearings make intermittent noise when they are dry and dying. Seem like the balls can get into just the right position, sometimes, to whine for a while, then work themselves in to a more normal position.

Next test is to go down the freeway and kill the motor to see if the noise goes out immediately. I just stripped the plastics off and checked under the valve cover plug breather, everything. Bled the clutch and f brake. Looked over everything electrical.

Seems fine.
