  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2015 FE501-S Dual Sport

I wonder if they will take as much to get them to run as the Italian TE's? It took a TXC ECU, 12-port injector, and an FMF exhaust to get my '12 TE310 to run right, but it runs real well now.

The 501 is much more enjoyable to ride, the 350 is more like a 2 stroke to me with most of it's power in the upper rpms. No real setup is required. We do have a couple of new ZipTy items coming for the dual sport bikes to make them run better for sustained high rpm.

Even the 13 TE's were easy enough to power up. I'm sure the KTM's don't need much either. Get one and report back to us :)

Acerbis makes a couple of excellent aftermarket tanks for the 501 which really increase mileage.

We have the MY14 models. I am told there are little differences to the new models other than mapping and the highway equipment.

Sure it will be like desmogging a EXC model which is already documented pretty heavily. It takes a reflash and some screwing around to get it dialed.

There are no tank plastics with the Acerbis tanks. For specific model numbers, you'll have to call us.

Is there an overall big diff between the TE449 and the FE501? Weight looks to be the same and the FE is a little taller.. Just wondering if I had both bikes in the woods which I would like more...

They are both half liter EFI, liquid cooled, 4 strokes. Everything else is different. Only you can answer your question.
