  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

2nd DNF in a row! What to do? update!!

Hey Skid, I was on the b-open class, I saw you out there, that little bike you got looks so tempting, lol, I ve spoken with you before at the mvtr meeting.
Anyways, I spoke with George today, and he's almost sure I'm getting water in the carb/ gas. After I rode saturday I washed the bike and maybe water got in somehow, I'll check it tomorrow, I' not ready to give up just yet****************************************

Alright guys, here's a quick update, I took the drain bolt out of the carb and put the gas in a clear container, sure enough there was this penny size bubble of water in the gas.
I drained the whole tank and examined the gas and didn't see anything there.
Went for a quick ride this afternoon with fresh gas and the bike was ripping once again.
So my next step is to find where/ how the water is getting in the carb, my first thought is by the vent hose that goes to the carb bowl, earlier this year I melted it and cut a few inches off of it but never had any problems until now, I replaced the hose, didn't wash the bike today and I'm riding tomorrow again, I'll let you guys know how it pans out.

do you use no toil?? that stuff is suppose to let water through the air filter pretty easy. My 125 looks like water getting sprayed on the tank can go under the seat and then down onto the air filter. If it does go through the filter maybe you could get a little puddle of water inside the air boot. then you fire up the bike and a bit of water gets sucked into the carb. whats the tank to airbox junction look like on that bike??
 
I agree with Pete change out the spark plug cap with an NGK one. My daughters TE 250 was doing the same things until i went to check the plug and the wire pulled right out. Then she tells me yah that happened when i changed she just pushed it back in thinking it was fine.
 
I too had the spark plug cap problem, pulled it right out. Also replaced with the universal screw in NGK cap.

Ive also had a really weird thing happen, somewhat related and worth looking at: I used pliers to pull out my spark plug cap, and grabbed the cap a bit too hard. Inside the Husky cap is a small ceramic insulator--i cracked it. The bike ran horribly and cut out periodically. Took about an hour to diagnose it, and really it was dumb luck i found it--just a side note--i was sitting in the Morroccan desert on day 3 of the Dakar Rally trying to figure out why my Husky just died on me when i found this cracked ceramic, and right then, in the middle of endless silence, all of a sudden a voice says "are you ok" - it freaked me out! It was a French chick on the radio who had been alerted i had stopped moving...just sharing a moment with ya.

Replace that spark plug cap, and make sure ya have the right gap and a snug fit.
