• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hello All,

Id like to first thank you all for a great read you all provide for a lurker like me. I haven't got my Husky yet (TR650 Strada) but have payed a deposit I'm very excited about getting one of those babies!!

OK to business. August this year my father, brother and I are flying from Australia and have booked and payed for a 17 day ride in the US. We intend to do around 2000 miles starting and finishing in Atlanta riding F800GS's. I would love and appreciate any pointers on amazing roads, fire trails and sites not to be missed from Atlanta to Roanoke. We will not be camping so some nearby inns or hotels will be needed at the end of the day. So if any of you out there reading CH and are either from the area or have had the pleasure to experience the area any info and pointers would be great.

Enjoy the adventure!

Cheers BigO

In addition to the Dragon, there are a ton of other great paved and forest service roads in the smokey mountains along the TN/NC border. Cherohala Skyway from Tellico to Robbinsville is a good high-speed scenic road. If you look at a map, just zoom in on the area near the Cherohala and pick a forest service road, lots of options. I've stayed at Tsali Campground on Lake Fontana and that's a great location to base out of for riding the area.

For the trip to Roanoke, just take the Blue Ridge Parkway the whole way, in at least one direction. http://www.blueridgeparkway.org

Awesome thanks Kyle. So much to see so little time. I think we will do Atlanta, GA, to Gainesville, GA, to Walhalla, SC to Franklin, NC to Topton, NC to Maryville, TN to Cherokee, NC to Asheville, NC to Little Switzerland, NC. This will link up Moonshiners 28, Tail of the Dragon, The Smokey Mountains, Old State Hwy 73, The Blue Ridge Parkway, Diamond Back then back on The BRPW to Roanoke. Well that is the plan this week but I bet it changes when we get there. Roanoke to Lexington KY should be fun any ideas?

keep talking like that guys and you will have tons of Aussies littering your fair shores.

That's some beautiful country. Used to spend a lot of time in Western N.C.. I'm jealous you're getting th ride through all of that!
