  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

300 question for Kelly , dfeckel , the Gallery

Saving my pennies for a 300 kit from Kelly on my 07 TE 250 with the stock Can. I've removed the baffle per a Post on T-Talk a couple of years ago which helped alot with low end..

I want the 300 so I can ride it a gear higher, and If I run into trouble I can just give it some throttle to save it...

The bike works for 80% of the riding I do but would like a little more power..

Have a rekluse (z-start) and am running a 12t on the front..stock 50 on the rear.

My question is this.. I have the stock can on it and am wondering if this will impede any gains the 300 will give me ? I already know I may need to rejet.

I know Kelly had a TC but that's a different deal..(but it's not Spark arrested) and dfeckel has the same bike.

This may be a moot point since aftermarket exhaust is not really an option on this bike anyway it it will work fine... but I hear Kelly may soon have Barret Exhaust systems available....

I kept my exhaust totally stock, and I loved the gains. I think with the combination of lower gearing and the 300 kit, you'd pretty much be unstoppable. I stayed at the stock 13/50 gearing, and with the big bore, I was able to leave it in 3rd gear on nice, flowing sections where before I had to bounce between 2nd and 3rd. The additional low end also made for less clutch work in the really tight sections. I found the most noticable gains in the midrange.

I personally am not a loud pipe fan, and the relatively unrestrictive, servicable and quiet stock pipe is one of my favorite features of the bike. That being said, I have thought about removing the restriction in the end cap, but I didn't want to do something irreversible and end up with a bike that was too loud. The Athena gave me just the right level of power, and the bike is still stealthy. If I could get my hands on a cheap second muffler, I would totally mod it and see if there were any appreciable gains. After all, if I didn't like the noise after the mod, I could always slap the unmodified muffler back on. Alas, cheap stock mufflers are few and far between.

I spoke with Dan at MotoXotica and he said you could take a TC 250 muffler and mod it to add a spark arrester to it.. (a pro moto billet). So I've been on the prowl.. (ebay ..craigslist etc...) and your right... they are few and far between....
