  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

430 fuel consumption

Running a 81/82 430 engine on the road it appears to be drinking fuel like the wife drinks Sherry. Not done any checks as yet but anyone any idea what it should be doing? MPG/ Hours per tank or any info welcome? Thanks

Never really noticed my 430 drinking too much , but my 84 500 drinks like a sailor,as did my old KTM 495, power needs fuel.. I've notice double the fuel usage at the track vs my 250. Unless you could meter the fuel better i'm sure plenty going out the exhaust un burnt...

Go to get on a dyno soon, just a couple more hours running in. That should tell me more maybe? My Anaconda swallowing a Capybara aftermarket pipe may not be helping.

I would have thought 30 to 45 miles on tank on the road. is it crisp or running a slight stutter on even throttle? if the needle is rich it will up consumption significantly as that's where most of the throttle settings on the road are

A stutter on an even throttle, is that rich? and holding back a little on full throttle (think that might be timing, will check it).

That stutter is your arse twitching... My 82 430 did 6 laps round farleigh castle and used probable 50mm of tank fuel....admittedly I wasn't on full chat all the way round but that adds up to 6 mile per 50mm...I would say that probably would add up to 40 mile radius on a tank...I'm running a 430 main jet by the way.

Har har, not had a single pucker (yet!). Just tweaked the timing a touch and it started real easy and revved up nice. Will be putting a load on it tomorrow if I can decide between smoking and non-smoking. Just put a 41mm carb on my KTM and it rips, just changed some jets tonight to dial it in. Time for a pint of Pimms and a session stalking my bikes and looking at them from many angles for an hour or so.

Ah, and I dropped the needle down to one notch from the top. I'm also on a 430 main, in fact all standard jetting etc at the moment.

If the needle is too lean, think about going to a fully synthetic high quality oil and run it at 75 to 1 to richen the mixture. has worked nicely on the 400. its silky smooth from bottom to the top

be wary of that needle setting until your confident its ok. feather down from full throttle rather than chop it to avoid it leaning out as it runs back down. its always a mystery with 2smokers and needle settings.
