  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

449 starter motor problem

hi there, any idea if you can get service parts for a te449(2011) starter motor. not long had the bike which was second hand. sorted all the problems i thought i had but on its first outing today i had what appeared to be a flat battery. starter would not turn bike over. thinking back to a problem i had with an early ktm 4 stroke i tapped the starter motor whilst hitting the electric start. and it cranked it over, seems there may be a sticking brush or something. any ideas? also looking at where it is located it looks like it may not clear the frame without moving the engine in the frame, again any ideas lol. continued to play up all the way home(lots of tapping lol)

I think it's the same as a MY12, and it is easy to remove. Take a look at parts diagram (halls site if you don't have one.
Main power relay is about $12, solenoid is about $26, starter is $212. That is all the main parts in the circuit to turn
It over, (besides starter button) if the wire is all good and these components are good, then your at the freewheel
Gear (have not heard of anyone needing to get in there yet) good luck, let us know.

yes think its same as 2012 model.think i may have to pull the engine to get the starter off as the frame members look like they may be in the way.anyone know if starter can be removed with engine in the frame?looks real tight. may get away with removing engine mounts and just lifting front of motor up a little.

I believe it will slide back and between frame members. Manual shows it in frame with instructions for removal.
Disconnect battery. Disconnect positive lead on starter. Remove 2 bolts, slide back and between frame members.

just for everyone to know. you cant get the starter motor out of the frame without taking all the engine bolts out and forcing the motor back. crap design, as a mater of fact after owning every make and most models this is the worst designed dirt bike I have come across. you can tell it was designed by car makers rather than racers.

You can take the starter out without loosing any bolts at all !!! i have done it 3 times now on my 511.
Remove the Waterhose and with some twist and patios you get it out.
My brushes were worn with 3500 km. Then with 200km later the seal was squeezed out. And just this weekend the solder from the new brushes came off .

Its actually a 15 min job to get it out.

ps: BMW never had any front rail frame around the Engine. Husqvarna designed the 449 511 frame....

well on the 449 it wont come out without moving the engine back, its real close but wont come out past the frame.

I have the same problem on my 2012 TE 449 (black frame, white frame from 2010 / 2011). I can't find a solution to remove it. Who removed the starter and how on a 2012 TE 449?
