  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

5 Years Later... 175 GP Restoration Resumes

Hey - after 5 years am finally resuming my 175 GP restoration. Currently working on my Leleu front wheel.

I have clear access to the bearing on the brake side of the hub but can't get at the bearing on the other side. There is a notched ring, as shown in the photos, that engages with the odo/speedo. The bearing sits behind that notched ring. Not sure how to remove the notched ring; its in there pretty tight.

Anyone know how to remove that ring? Don't want be hammering and levering until I know what I'm doing. Thanks in advance for any help.

Also including a photo of that little odo/speedo drive unit. BinxView attachment 104283

Hey, Max - yeah, finally getting back to the 175 project. Started cleaning up the front wheel but eventually decided to pull the whole thing apart to "really" clean it. Rim has a ding and the spokes are corroded but they cleaned up ok with a wire wheel.

Still can't figure out how to get that odo/speedo notched pawl off the front hub. Did you have one of those on your front wheel? Can't get at the bearing without removing that pawl.

To remove the speedo drive flange. Pull the brake side axle bearing and then you can drive the speedo drive flange and bearing out from the inside. The speedo drive flange is just pressed into the hub casting same as the bearings.
