• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

50 Years of Kicks

Awesome vid and well done. My wife says that me, never sees me stop riding. I ride with an 71 YO guy once in a while. Excellent rider and always bitching we stop to much.

BTW who are these guys and where is that? Notice the Motosportz damper in his bike at the 12:22 point. Would like to send these guys some free stuff.

This was mostly shot in the Ottawa/Eastern Ontario area.
The 2 main creator/producers are Dallas Shannon of 'Traction': (link to issues)http://www.odsc.on.ca/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=18296
And Anthony Kerr of MotoJournalism http://motojournalism.blogspot.ca/

The riders profiled are a couple of longtime Ottawa area riders, although Paul is originally from Oklahoma and worked for NASA (engineer) for many years & has spent a lot of time in the Eastern Ontario area & now lives there.

I'll have Dallas get in touch with you.

Quite a video ... Lot is good points made ... ESP, if your not having fun, just load up ... It is all about having fun ... I've never, never really had a bad riding day (crashes not counted) because I luv riding bikes and seeing others ride theirs ... Sometimes, the 'just have fun ' point is lost in the shuffle ...

I'm with Paul on that $300 worth of gas line also ... And he might be from OK but apparently he studied at the U of A (1:05) ..

I had the pleasure of riding in Nevada last week with Larry and will tell you this the guy is got some incredible stamina. He is a great rider and all around fun guy, hope to be riding that well when I'm his age.
I was also diagnosed with Meniere's Disease last summer and can tell you this has to be one of the hardest things to ride with.

That was awesome. Thank you for sharing. I'm 53 myself and still have a ball everytime I go out riding. I think when you stop having fun with life you stop having life.

Hi Slowpoke and Hammer, what's happening. Hammer - long time no see - :)

Slowpoke, thanks for posting, I'm one of the guys that helped put this together. Both riders are part of the Bytown Motorcycle Association and this was filmed last September in Calabogie and Limerick forest in Eastern Ontario.

It was a lot of fun, please share with other like minded individuals. It's a doc that most older guys can relate to.

After becoming tired of watching 20 year olds do double backflips - we were looking for something truly inspiring then found Paul and Larry!

Thanks,
D

What a great video! Truly inspiring & knowing there are others that will probably ride till they die makes me feel like i am in good company. I too have very few friends my age.

Fantastic**************************************** Brings back memories. I used to live in Ottawa and used to ride up around Calabogie with a guy from Perth ont, Bill Bak. Great riding area. My most prized trophy is from a hare scramble run by Bill back in 1997 at Christie lake. Crashed on the first lap and was coming dead last, managed to come third on an XR 250.

Dallas actually joined SDAR after I posted the video over there. He's moving to New Mexico, so not too far away from So. Cal. Maybe next he'll do a video on little old ladies who ride. Then I could star in it and it could be called "Fifty years of kicks and cussin' ".:lol: Okay maybe not quite fifty, but getting close!

Being only 55 in the next month, I hope to ride until I am 70+ too. I can't think of a better way to go than checking out while riding on one of my favorite gnarly MTN trails.

Very cool vid.
