  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

500 engine problems

Story starts with my mistake, buying something without actually seeing it in person-OK I'll take that responsiblity. Bought a 83-XC500 basically for the engine, my 83-XC500 needs a rod kit, another story. Talk a friend into delivering it for me on his way "by". Guy said it runs great-blaw-blaw. Get it home, its a 84 WR500, no biggie, actually looks better than picture, which just was engine. Gas is really dead in it, clutch cover is broke bad, wont even hold over a pint of oil. Clean carb, fresh plug, change clutch cover with one off of a dead waterpumper, put soft plug in pump hole. Spend a couple of evenings fighting spark with the PVL it has, I thought was a bonus because he never mentioned it, found out why-crummy spark. Finally get it running and take it out to ride. Spend another hour trying to get it to run when I get there, have thoughts about the lost guy in "On Any Sunday". Finally starts ride around for a few minutes and notice LH boots all oily-nice! Stop and find out my soft plug in waterpumper clutch cover is gone!:banghead: Still has oil in it and only hundred yards across pasture to father in laws shop. Kick it twice, no start, I dont know why I hoped for anything else? Third kick funny firing noise, kinda a pop and smoke comes out hole in clutch cover? Crank seal on LH bad? Didnt run it very long but seemed to run not so good and was "pulse thing" on de-acceleration. Smoke came out for awile after the "pop" like blowby on a four cycle would? Did I have combustion downstairs and it pushed its way thru the crank seal? Any help will be appreciated, Scott

wow......

thats a head scratcher
so many things it could be from air leak to very bad crank seals
smoke out of exhaust, much?
any color to it?

Need coffee to go with head scratching on this one
too early too soon....
:excuseme:

Hang in there, we will get the beast up and running.
