• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

50mm Zoke discovery

I've been wanting to get my 50 Zokes on my 09 WR250 re-valved for quite a while but have put it off. I have experimented with oil weights and oil levels and the clicker positions and thought I'd try one more thing before I resigned to send them away. I weigh 215 lbs and my rider sag was within the limits but was on the big side of the spectrum (135mm). I kind of suspected that on the downhill sections that the forks were compressing and putting me in the harsher mid valve and then when I hit a rock it would kick the front out and either scare the crap out of me or many times put me on the ground. I was improving my riding in all areas except on rocky downhill sections I rode like I was afraid of getting my purse caught on a tree .

My fork seals were leaking so I bought some SKF seals and a set of .48 springs from Halls to replace the .45 that were in it from the factory. I used Maxima 5w oil and set the oil level @ 125mm which was the best level I had found so far. All I can say is wow what a huge difference in made. Getting the sag away from the big limit combined with the lower stiction fork seals made a night and day difference. I had already changed the rear spring to a 5.6 and the front change didn't affect the balance and if anything improved it. Now it's time to start attacking those dreaded rocky downhill sections.

I weigh about the same and have leaky seals, so may try what you have done as well (heavier springs).
I have a 5.7 at the rear and that works great, but I find the same with the forks on downhills, so a spring upgrade may be the go??

Sweet and the Marzocchi forks are very good I think with some tuning ..

I run the oil level low in my 50mm closed chambers as the final touch for them and they are very good for trails and tracks ... They have a straight stack and 1 small mid valve change only ... Fast trails up to 40 MPH and they work great ... My sag is probably on the short side via that pre-load clip in the forks and this works for me ...

The kybs on my 010 TC250 are 100% stock and work well also, but not as good as the 50mm Marzocchi on the trails ... On the track, the kybs are probably slightly better there....

robertk61, the SKF seals have a lot less stiction which had to help plus the leak needed fixing but I think the big benefit was getting the sag away from the big end. (like ray_ray)

I was considering a shim to help the mid but they are working so good now I'm inclined to not mess with them.

When I get a chance I will re-measure the sag and report exactly what it is with the .48 springs.

The seals were $33 each $66 total and the springs were $100 and would have been needed with a re-valve but at this time I think the re-valve is not necessary.
