    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

510 power kit questions

I’m looking at a new 2010 TE510. The dealer recommends doing the power kit except for the O2 sensor and the jumper until after break in. He is unsure on weather the warrantee will be voided if map is changed to race.

My question is wouldn’t the O2 sensor adjust the map fatter when it senses that the intake and exhaust is opened up? Is the O2 sensor needed when you have a change altitude? Are the stock ECU maps adjustable when tune on a dyno or is something like a power commander available?

The PU kit without the O2/jumper is just a slip-on and a tail-light.

When the PU kit is installed, the O2 sensor connection is replaced with a jumper/resister that tells the ECU to use the race/off-road map. I've also been told that the idle/off-idle performance of the 2010/11s is pretty bad without making some adjustment (enrichment) to the mapping. The implication was that the map is adjustable even with the stock ECU without the PU kit installed.

I've only had my bike a week, so I'm really new to the Husky FI, but I'm fairly familiar with the GM FI. For GM (or any OBD-II FI application) the O2 sensor is only used for low speed mapping. Anything past a certain throttle opening/rpm/manifold pressure the ECU is completely on the internal internal map. I would guess that the Husky works the same way. If so, the O2 sensor is only going to have an effect on idle and low speed operation.

I never rode my bike without the PU kit, so I can't say what the stock set up is like. I can tell you that the PU kit tune is VERY crisp and makes a lot of power.

In any case, just get the bike. You're going to love it. Go with whatever tuning the dealer recommends.
 
Your bike would probably run better with the sensor removed and with the richer race map and Power up items. You do take a chance with your warranty and from what I've heard the ECU will log any change to the race map. I would (and did) wait till I had some miles on the bike before changing it all out, adjusting the valves and switching to leaded gas mix. Part of the price you pay for these street legal bikes is for the warranty. The bikes themselves don't really run right till they've gotten some miles. 2-300 minimum till you notice better idling and around 500 would be a good point to powerup. Just my .02. I've had a 300 kit installed in mine and noticed it's taken around 250 miles to get to idling nice again.
 
It took me all summer to get my issues with my 510 resolved. It boiled down to some loose connectors in my O2 sensor plug and tweaking the race map for better throttle control and idling. I currently run (and did from the get go) her unrestricted. It's phenomenal! I will say take it easy after a little bit of rain. Those Karoos are $@% on the pavement... The bike slides on dry pavement rolling on the throttle!!

The biggest thing I would say is to work with your dealer during the break-in period and after to refine the settings. Once they're set to your preferences forget about it and ride hard!
 
Thanks for the info, I can’t get much info from the dealer. The dealership is Harley dealer trying to sell dirt bikes. My salesman, I’ve learned is not very knowledgeable so I’m not getting a real warm and fuzzy feeling about the whole thing. I’ve been there twice and I have never heard of a dealer letting a potential customer walking out twice without selling a bike.:banghead:
 
I would find another dealer that is more in tune with the Husqvarna bikes,but I would definetly get one they are great bikes.The dealership you choose will make purchase/ownership,setup and any warranty if need arises either a friend :thumbsup: or very unpleasant experience trying to resolve issues.Ask people with Husqvarnas,where you are located who to deal with for your purchase.:thumbsup:
 
I bought my left over '08 SM610 from a dealer last year and he put a Leo Vince slip-on muffler on it and then remapped the computer to account for the exhaust. He also told me to break it in before I pulled the Lambda Sensor and put in the resistor to put the computer into the race map. It ran pretty good that way with just a little pop here and there.

After I broke it in I put in the plug and resistor and it runs very good - no pops or farts at all and it pulls hard all through the power band.

Since you're not supposed to rev it past 5,500 rpm until it's broke in, it kind of makes sense to keep the bike under warranty in case there is a problem during the break-in period.

I understand the importance of a good dealer. This guy is 27 miles from me and the next dealer is 99 miles and then 126 miles to Malcolm Smith’s. Even know this guy is relatively close I don’t think I’m going to be doing much business with him other than buying the bike unless he gives a killer deal on accessories but I’m guessing not cause I purchased a Harley from them back in 05 and not much has changed. The dealer for my other bikes is only a few miles from me and I don’t ever see them unless it’s a warrantee issue, I order everything on line and do my own servcie. This guy does however have good prices on the bikes:

I went to the same dealer you're talking about (the HD dealer selling dirt bikes). The owner is a nice guy who let me test ride a 2009 TE 510 with the power up and a TE 630.

I still ended up buying my bike from George at Up-Tite because of my faith in him putting the bike together, doing the power up and tuning properly, and a whole host of other reasons. I remeber Uptite Husky from when I was yonger and lived in OC. Yeah, I perfer to stay close to town with my big ticket items.

I have since picking up the bike installed or rather removed all the smog crap off the bike. Boy that made that thing wake up! I tryed to ride it as is from the dealer and it would even break 50mph and it took a full 90 seconds to get there and that was down hill with a tail wind! After 30 miles of that crap I did the power up kit; then I had one big smile on my face. I have this little field by my house and after another 30 miles of break in I took it out for a little test ride. I could not keep the front wheel on the ground! I think this will work out just fine. I need to change the oil now.
