  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

510 vibrations

Ruffus

Husqvarna
AA Class
I recently set off on an adventure, to ride the Trans America Trail, but had to cut it short.
My bike started vibrating an unusual amount, so I decided to cut my losses & ride home. Although I did finish the TN section.
There were numerous small issues, one was due to my brain farts during preparation , others were known issues that didn't come to light until I was on the ride. And one I don't think I've ever heard before.

The worst one was the vibration, & it's the one that worries me the most.

I looked at the motor mounts & they appear to be fine, but I'll have a better handle on it when I tear into it in a couple days.

Is there any area of the motor I should start looking?

It starts up in a heart beat, has no loss of power, just vibrates an excessive amount. At low RPM's & speeds, it feels like an excessively loose chain while lugging the engine even though I'm not, & the chains got the proper slack.

It's sounds like what I would imagine a single cylinder diesel tractor would sound like  At upper RPM's it sounds normal, except for the vibrations. :excuseme:

I'd also like to thank Louge & Kelly for offering to be part of my support crew if I needed anything.

My motor mount bolts come loose all the time. I actually lost a bolt riding one day. Red loctite and Nyloc nuts help, but you still have to watch them.

I'm thinking about drilling them out for larger bolts.

If you figure out the chain thing, please share. I have the same problem and I'm affraid to look into it too far for what I might find.

I've posted about it before but..

installing these in the bars made a big difference to me.

http://www.vibranator.com/

combined with pro grip 714 grips, vibes were not really a problem on the Trip to the Tip Baja ride.

At least a 25% improvement, but not as smooth as a drz400. Highly recommended.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Thank you for that, but the vibes before this happened didn't bother me. Actually starting at & going from Bumfries Virginia to Virginia beach so we could start on the Atlantic I though the bike was incredibly smooth. A few days after that, something happened to make the engine very viby. :excuseme:

Pull ign cover, wipe out flywheel look for scraping on the inside surface if so mains are going and alowing the flywheel to drag on the ign.
Pull out the oil filter and cut it apart look stretch it out like an accordion if see shiney metal flakes rod is my guess.
Later George

We drill them out to 3/8 its not hard except the front case dowel can be hard as diamonds and we have a special carbide tip for that section. It works great no more vibes and they dont come loose anymore.Billf

Edit: Nevermind, to any who read this last post, the search for the problem continues.

Okay, sorry about the delay, life got in the way. I've pulled the filter & drained the oil. Zero flakes on the magnet, some black crud on the screens, still have to pull ignition cover.
On the oil filter, whats the best way to open it up? Cut along the metal casing? Or rip off the metal casings? Never done it before.

P.S. has anyone ever had an oil line fail at the crimp on the banjo fitting?

Taking it to ScottyR on Tuesday, hope it's minor issue (fingers crossed)

Just took off the ignition cover & it's smooth as a babies bottom, zero evidence of scoring or any type of rubbing. Not even any metalic splooge, which is good since I cleaned it out the day before the trip.

Thanks for the info, taking it to my dealer ScottyR tomorrow, Hoping it's something simple.

My adventures on the TAT sound more like misadventures. An unfunny comedy for me.
