  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

510TE i'm buying is an 05 not an 06 as i thought.

Husqvarna
B Class
Lads,

I'm picking up a TE510 this weekend.

Bike is registered on 07 and we thought it was an 06, but he's just checked and is actually an 05.

We've negotitated the price down slightly...

Anything else i should worry/think about ?

For info, it only has 900 miles on it, immaculate with good history.

If you were in the USA I would say watch out for the road registration - 2006 was when they came legal to be ridden on the road. I've no idea if there was any difference in the UK.

The bike itself should be fine, basically the same as the 2006/7 bikes.

Thanks buddy. No issues over in UK on that sort of thing. Picking it up Friday.

Just be careful if you are going to ride that around town, pretty easy to get a ticket (they work well/fast). :)

I have a 2006 TE-510 and love it. It's not very good on the street, but excellent off road. The '06 is historically significant here, it's the first real dirt bike that could be had with a plate. No FI, no cat, no keyed ignition. Light and nice. Good luck with it.

And I just remembered there may be other differences between the 2005 and 06/07... but am not quite sure.

If anyone could speak up that has more info that would be great.

I'm pretty sure there were changes to make more horsepower in 06 for the 450 and I think the 510 followed suit.
More compression for one... but some would lower the compression to make em chug-a-lug better.
50mm forks in 06.
Later style speedo... all I can think of.

My 05 is a great bike

The 05 has slightly smaller valves and I believe that they have a counter balancer, but I am not 100% sure of that as I didnt sell them in 05.

I have had a couple of 05 TE450s traded in and they feel faster than the 06s do for some reason.

Both good bikes. Dumb taking the counter balancer out for the 06. The 06 had a slightly stronger clutch basket and kick starter (no biggie there with electric leg). it went from 46 to 50 mm zockies (open chambers). Thats about it. I had a 510 from 05 it was a real killer machine. great for the open desert and fire trails. Too much for me on the tight ST-went to an 06 450. No mechanical issues what aso ever.
Note if the bike was build in the last half of 05 it probaly is an 06 model. Check the fork diameter for a quick resolution-don't tell the seller. My 450 was a Nov 05 build and was a designated 06 model for instance.

I've got well over 15000 miles on my 05 TE510, it's been a great bike. It is now my street bike in SM trim. The suspension was shot though after so many hard off road miles but the motor has been bullet proof.

Superb lads, looking forward to getting it later on in the week.

Keyless ignition is a minor problem i must admit but nothign i can't sort out.

I'm pretty sure the only difference between the the '05 TE510 and the '06 TE510 was the internal primary gears.......oh, and they of course got brake light switch, brake/tail light and turn signals (at least in the USA - I had heard they were already street legal overseas). Maybe a tooth smaller on the rear sprocket??
It was fairly simple to add items required make mine a street legal in Idaho.....as in street legal "dirt bike", not really dual-sport bike or at least not that street friendly

2005 TE510 internal primary gearing was lower at 64/21, then the 2006 (& on) TE510 went higher to 63/23.
This is probably roughly the same as one tooth change on the front sprocket.

Other than some harshness in the front forks I didn't like, that LT Racing took care of for me (& some pop-die flame-out issues early on), I have been really happy with mine.
Low maintenance, reliable, good on fuel for what it is, handles great (even before suspension work), more power than I need in 90% on my trail riding, and fun.
Only problem I have, is not having time to get out and ride more.

Anohter Qn lads...

Does it have ignition keys ? If not, what's the starter/ignition mechanism ? Debating an immobiliser, but need to find out how the ignition works...

The American spec 2006 TE bikes are w/o keyed ignition. They have a starter interlock in the clutch lever that I've been thinking about adding an anti-theft switch in series.

The bikes may of been built differently in the UK.
