  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

511 gas boiling

Muchmore

Husqvarna
AA Class
I know this is a common thread topic but I believe mine is a bit different. I have a 12' 511 race map 3, stock de-cat exhaust and everything else STOCK.

When riding 2 weeks ago on a very, very hot day in the trails the bike heated up so bad the gas was vaporizing or maybe boiling in the lower tank. It lost power on all but wide open throttle I mean it would not even idle unless the throttle was pinned and then it would run---wide open throttle.

I thought the gas cap was not venting so when I took it off I noticed....gas circulating in the tank. It looked like it was boiling or condensation that was dripping off the roof of the tank. Is there a drain back line to the upper tank that exits around the gas cap filler neck?

I really, feel like it is the lower tank getting so hot it's either boiling or definitely limiting fuel somehow. No radiator boil over and full of oil.

Idea's?

there are two lines there. One is a tank breather to the outside world with a one way valve in line. the other ones is a vent for the lower white subtank back up to the main tank.

I saw a KTM 4 stroke boil its gas so bad at the Greenbriar Enduro it was spraying all over the rider then he opened the tank!

When I took the cap off it was like one of those home water fountains that recirculate themselves. It was a very fast drip coming from the drain back tube area of the tank, really a constant run. So obviously the lower tank was either boiling or pressurized somehow and spitting fuel back up to the big tank.

Wasn't there some pics of heat-tape covering the 'hot' side of the small tank somewhere. Seemed like a good idea.

Adding exhaust wrap from the head to the base of the silencer is the single best thing you can do to really prevent and control much of this heat (I use Ti wrap/hose clamps). Stock exhaust, decatted or not, is still very restrictive and will heat the engine up higher than an open style exhaust. Several companies sell self adhesive heat wrap for the front fuel cell where the pump and filters are located. Engine oil 101, fast high flowing M1 0W40 also help reduce engine temperatures, especially at higher contained volumes. XF controls hot spots, making the over all engine temperature uniform and controlled. Lastly, I run my tank vent to the back side of my air box. This adds a slight vacuum to my tanks which helps relieve pressure and prevent vapor lock and fuel cell bulging.

Danny, Dangermouse, Tinken thank you all very much all of this is going to be done. If I wasn't so scared of loud exhaust I would just put another pipe on also. But, I do love riding around the neighborhood to much! Tinken, you flashed it for me so I know the maps are RM3 so why could it be getting so dang hot? Fans work, it has 0-40, Husky brand antifreeze, non-methanol 91 fuel, yes it was slow moving trails but dang!

Tinken, can you post of a pic of where your fuel vent line is? Stock, mine was routed to behind the cylinder and would dump fuel all over the motor. I rerouted it to behind the swingarm so now I don't know if it still dumps fuel. I just don't get if you're talking about running to the outside of the airbox or what?

Ceramic coating works well too, without the downside of collecting moisture or oil for when it decides to puke up oil. Cost about twice as much but worth it.

Its just the way it is, not really abnormal.

Tinken, on the M1 oil do you use the regular one for cars? I found M1 for motorcycles but they only have 10w-40 and 20w-50. They have 0w-40 for cars. My dealer recommends the Castrol synthetic and that's what I have in there now.

Also, on the fuel breather going to the airbox. My bike spews fuel out of that line so I wouldn't want that dumping into the airbox. Have you heard of any other TE's doing that? I wonder if I have a bad valve on that line. Is there a good aftermarket one I could put on there?
