• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

610 suspension problems?

Does that mean taking the bike to a suspension guy?

Sending the suspension to a suspension place, not the whole bike.

I took my forks & shock off and sent them to John Curea at MX-Tech in Pennsylvania. For the next bike (if this one ever wears out) I'll probably send them to Les in Washington.

Thanks Coffee

I was recommended RMR suspensions. There's one 45 minutes away. But I really don't know anything about them.

Does the 08 TE610 have front compression clickers? I thought I had read on ADV that there were no compression or rebound clickers on the 08 models..

There are some on the top, but not on the bottom (the compresson adjustment) as shown in the manual.

The '08 TE 610 has .50 springs stock, 7 weight fork oil, and comes with adjustable rebound dampning only--and thats what the clickers on the top of the fork tubes are for.

I found considerable air pressure build up during my ride, and will be getting some air bleeders as well.

Talked to LTR today about having the forks modified--lighter spring, re-valve, and compression adjusters added.

Cost was VERY reasonable. I will send the forks (and shock) off in the next couple days.

Suspension is everything.

suspension question

Yes it turned out to be the case. Me 180lbs + full tank + gear could get 10.8in of travel from 11in total front. The rear was perfect completely open.
I had to relearn how to ride this Cadillac
I have read this thread and I'm still confused. Are you saying both compression and rebound clickers turned all the way out worked best for you?

thanks
bob

Back from a 600 mile 3 day baja trip. Man that was fun. '08 TE 610 now with 1000 miles.

After repeated attempts at dialing in the front forks i came up with this:
5 clicks of rebound--

Any less and i was bottoming out the forks on really big jumps at high speed, and i was 'packing' the forks on high speed downhill braking bumps.

The forks are still a bit harsh when hitting cross grain rain ruts, but much better than the stock settings.

To get them better oil levels, and oil amounts would have to be fiddled with.

After that its time for a suspension re-valve and or re-spring.

So try running it on 5 clicks out. Cant imagine anyone would need more/faster rebound. ( i weigh 205lbs, plus gear, etc. -- 'A' type rider)

Hope that helps.

Stock i found the bike came with 10 clicks.

Hi,
Just to clarify for some readers:

You were 5 clicks "out" (counterclockwise) from "full" Rebound damping (all the way Clockwise)
Correct?

I think this means you still had a lot of Rebound damping and may have been why you felt you were
"packing" the forks/shocks........... by actually not allowing the units to Rebound fast enough.

Many tech shops consider full Clockwise , or Full Rebound damping, as position 0. ; which is somewhat confusing for many of us.
Some readers misconstrue "X clicks" as X clicks Clockwise from full open or fully CounterClockwise (turned left)......instead of 5 clicks CounterClockwise from fully closed.

Edit:
I meant to quote Mike in the previous post.

I am with Eldiablo with my recent 08 610 and OEM suspension.

I've only gotten a couple hours at the local ORV park before leaving the bike for the winter but I
started with all dampers fully open (Counterclockwise) and preload on rear about 1/2 from the top of
threads/upper mount for the proper sag and the suspension felt pretty good......in the rock chop
and small whoops..........190 armored up. More tuning soon.

i found it interesting reading although i am now more confused than before i started!

clockwise/anticlockwise/clicks out/open:confused: :excuseme:

Clockwise = more damping = towards closed

Anti/counter-clockwise = less damping = towards open

Fully clockwise = fully closed = most damping

Fully anticlockwise = fully open = least damping

Of course this applies to both compression and rebound via the different adjusters.
