• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

630 died today!

My 630 died today out in the bush. Coughed and spluttered a bit then died. Instrument panel displayed all sorts of gibberish for a while then nothing. Thought the battery had died as it was a bit sluggish cranking over this morning. Got it home and fitted the battery out of my Versys and still nothing. Hoping its the main fuse. If not, then the fun begins.

Sorry to hear it man. That happened to me once with my 630. As I'm sure you've already read it's not uncommon for a fray in the loom to bring things to a sudden stop- that's what happened with me (same thing- some coughing/sputtering first...and also display weirdness...then shut-down. My fray was in the section of the wiring harness that routes under the battery tray to the voltage regulator.)

I've adjusted my harness in places like this so there's no tension on sharp edges, and padded the areas I couldn't work around. it can be a real problem, there are more wires and connectors under the tank than there is room.

Yes, Eric is right. I was lucky because I "caught it" at time. Look:

Turns out that despite looking fine and even testing ok with a multimeter, replacing the main fuse appears to have fixed the problem. Very strange.

Don't think so. Ive had issues with the main fuse holder in the past. Last time I couldn't get power through the spade fuse holder at all, so I replaced it with a glass fuse holder and it worked fine. Now it seems the main fuse gremlin has returned. Maybe I need an exorcism!
