• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

630 Noise at Startup

Picked up a new 630 on Wed. and between rainstorms I've managed to put 35 miles on it. One thing I've noticed is that the engine is extremely noisy for about 30 seconds then it abruptly stops. Doesn't sound anything like a lack of oil pressure, valve noise or anything else I would expect to hear from a cold engine. Any ideas?
 
30 seconds is a long time for the decomp noise, should quit in just a second or two. Use the cold-start lever - the one that looks like what everybody else uses for a hot-start. :thumbsup: Took me a month to figure that one out.

Should fix itself with some break-in miles.
Power-up, and set hot idle for about 1700-1750, will cold start easier.
 
Where is the auto-decomp on a 630? Can't find anything about it in the shop manual...
Not saying it's not there, it just isn't on the cam gears.

It's on one of the exhaust cams on my KTM, but I didn't think to look for it when I had the 630 cover off. Just assumed it had one.

Ah I guess it's the little flappy lobe thing to the right of the right exhaust cam lobe.... Not that I think about it, I remember seeing that when I did my valves.
 
Rob,i had the same problem with my 630 ,it appeared after 300 miles.My dealer is new to Huskys and wanted to keep the bike until they were sure of the cause.They fitted a new auto-decomp and now as CJ says its noisy for a few seconds but a quick rev and its fine. The 630 unit is quite a noisy one anyway but gets better once run in and the valve check is completed
