• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

80's CR kickstand mod

Since the '85 CR500 didn't come with a kickstand (I guess they figured all your time would be racing, with no time left for leaning, jawing, and just hanging out especially where there aren't any trees around to prop the bike up against) what's the most popular modification to install a kickstand? I suspect that the correct placement would be on the swingarm, but I did notice the there's a through-hole frame member beneath the rear engine mounts where an industrious guy could install a kickstand....but it wouldn't float with the arm. This bike doesn't have a mounting tab on the swingarm, I don't have the ability to weld aluminum so would have to fabricate some other type of mount. I've seen some reference to clamp-on mounts...may have to go that route.

Ideas, experiences, recommendations? Thanks.

All the clamp on stands I have seen down through the years (classic & modern bikes) usually break fairly quickly. It would be worth researching what others have done re fitting of a welded on bracket etc. Did the 85 WR's have a stand ? That would be worth copying.

Thanks for the advice. Pictures would help so I could shamelessly copy the design.
I just looked at an '86 WR400 on youtube, with monoshock and alumimum swingarm. I could always drill and tap the swingarm and install a bracket, but was hoping not to put holes in the swingarm. I may just have to fabricate a steel clamp assembly, a stout one of my own making that will stay together (I hope).

If I could find a picture of my old 87 430WR showing the stand I would do so. But I don't think I have.

Go easy on drilling holes in your swing arm. The Enduro Swing arm is reinforced in this area to get good thread fixings. All the parts are available...

You may do better finding an Enduro swing arm on Ebay..

Andy.

Thanks Andy. Yeah, I'm with you....don't really want to drill and tap the swingarm 'cause it's not really thick enough for good purchase on threads that will see a lot of torque with the kickstand down holding the bike up....especially when kicking her over. The Euro swingarm is an option, but we just finished rebuilding this one with all new bearings and such. Don't really relish taking it all apart again, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

You could have someone weld a 1/4" thick pad to the bottom of the swingarm. I am likely going to do that to use a 1986 or 87 kickstand mount to get rid of the clampon that came with my 400WRX

Yepper, looks pretty darn familiar except I have black fork boots, a fork brace, a Skyway arrestor, black oval decals on the number plates (stock), Curnuts on the back, and running with an external rotor and CDI from a 400MX. Right now it's sitting in the shop, pissed off and giving me dirty looks as I spend my time on the Husky's.

I hang out over at Vintagemx when speaking Japanese.

Here's the bro's mx360 along side of my 360 mono. Mine's about to go thru a modified 400 piston transplant. I hope these pics post, if not, then he's going to have to educate me.
I hate it when that happens.
Oh, yeah, in keeping with the thread, we did put a kick stand on my 360
