  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

hey men, will take me a while to figure this web site out, and thanks to rick in texas who put me on to you guys.......best advise i have had form a layer ever, i picked up an 81cr430, to race vintage with ,i have been a maico guy for many many years but took a spin on this 430 and it felt like a glove, but am new to older huskys so i will need your help , advice, and support - i have rebuilt the ohlins and put stiffer springs on as i am 240lbs at 6'2''+ also stiffer springs in forks, i see that philip at husky parts in arizona , has the fully tunable evo shocks he says they are a honda crossover shock, a set is 1500.00, are the worth it?, also he says the gold fork emmulatiors are the ticket.....i am 48 this year and want the best suspension i can get without waisting money, then brakes i went with a double leading shoe set up form 83/84 hub, what type shoes will i want? i have used grippers on the maico 490 and had good luck with them when arched ?, lastly is the mossbager reed set up that much better than the stock set up, i have been using vforce on the maicos, any thing els i should look for please let me know .........oh the maicos have been sold and i see the light, thanks johnny o.

Hey Johnny- yes go with stiffer springs and RT emulators,as far as the rear I would say stiffer springs and a rebuild/re-valve from a good vintage Ohlins dealer. Works Performance make some great cusstom built shocks also,at about half the price. I don't know about the brakes. I also recommend Renthal Vinatge/Desert bend bars. Good to look back and look at past threads for other tricks/tips also. There's a couple pipe builders for 1981 430CR also.

frog , thanks for gettin back, will check out works performance , also have been waiting so long for pro form pipe from eric at maico only went and sent stock pipe to jemco and still waiting and waiting and waiting still........thanks johnny.

JohnnyO,
Glad you found the Cafe. Lots and lots of very talented and knowledgeable folks here in the vintage section. Wealth of info here. Post up some photos of your scoot and what ever you might be worlking on. All are interested.

As an owner of a 81 430 XC I look forward to seeing where this thread goes. Pics please!

Hi - almost ready to put my 430CR re build back together, maybe as soon as this weekend. Frame in back from powder coat - engine is back with new piston and bore. Crank has been redone.
Number one thing for the 1981 430 is have the a sleeve made and installed for the kickstarter shaft - in will make this area strong and hold the kick start gear straight when kicking and prevent the case from cracking. I just received my pipe from Geoff Morris from down under its a work of art. It took about 6 weeks to have him make one and its sharp. Also had shocks rebuilt and re shimmed - as I understand from feedback - this stiffer shim really helps - Well i just will
have to find out after its all back together and let everyone know. My weight is almost the same - let me know what rear springs you come up with.

Keep me updated on your progress.

Hi gary M , I have a pair of 83's with the dreaded kickshaft problem(leaking/coroded seal surface's that i need to address, do you have any tip's on sleeving them?any help much appreciated cheers

`81- you may want to consider the BRP tall perches with more offset seeing that you are 6`2"

Check out my resto of my `81 430 to see the pictures of the purches.
