• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hawaii,

Try "Vintage Iron" in Cali. I think they make one. About $120.00. The ones I've seen look good. If I didn't already have one prepped and ready to go or needed one - they would be at the top of the list.

Original stock ones pop up on ebay regularly. Those would be a great candidate for a resto/fab job.

Have fun and post up pictures. Pictures tell the story.

Oh by the way --- Sweeeeeeeet bike! you got there --- TFF

Rick

My stock one is like new, just looking at maybe rolling the noise down a bit with a good FMF for a modern CR500 or something...and rebuild capabilities all that stuff....

Just looking for options.

That's why I maintain a separate "dirt bike"-I mean gift giving account. That way I never half to explain things like why I needed a new helmet when I have three aready or how much I spent on the wife and kid at Christmas.:busted:

Husky500Auto.jpg

Hi, this is my first post so please be gentle with me .Ive got to say, what a great site for vintage Husky fans . This is a picture of my '84 500 AE , that is currently undergoing a freshen up . I have been using the FMF muffler as shown , which I think was made for a KX500 . I removed one of the top mounting lugs & had the part that slips over the back of the pipe (off an original Husky steel muffler with the O ring seal) welded to the inlet side of the FMF muffler .

It runs & sounds really good with the FMF muffler. I also have an Answer S11 "Equalizer" alloy muffler off an '85/6 XC500, that fits & I am going to try out soon . The FMF muffler does look big , but only about 150mm of it sticks out once the sidepanel is in place .

What a beast - no shifting - just wick it up - cool!!! I like it.

What happens when you let off the gas, other than hit the brakes HARD - freewheeling? Compression braking? I'm curious.

Rick

When you shut off the gas there is no compression braking , just freewheeling like you say . Sometimes , like when it is revving hard in second gear & you chop the throttle, it will momentarily shift up into third before decelerating ( much like an auto transmission in a car kicks up sometimes when you take your foot of the gas). This can be a bit daunting till you get used to it. My main fear is if the throttle ever sticks on full, there would be no way of stopping it & you would just have to jump off the back . I don't think the kill switch would stop it on full noise .
