• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

84 250 into ML frame?

I am thinking this won't be an issue. Just a temporary swap till I get the 390 engine fixed. Plus my fat butt bent one of the 84 shock shafts and I want to go riding. Opinions wanted.

I did exactly what you are asking about. I put a 1984 250WR engine into a 1978 Auto ML frame. I found you will need to make a custom set of front engine mounts after you mount the engine on the swingarm pivot. You will need to rotate the engine on the swingarm pivot until you reach a position where the carb can be aligned with the inlet of the airbox. I found an exhaust for a 1982 got closer than the 1984 exhaust. I found I can extend the header slightly with a tail pipe adapter. This is needed because the downtube on the ML frame is further from the engine than the 84 frame(much tighter engine cradle) You can make front engine mounts from 1/4" aluminum or 3/16 steel"

Thanks for the info, especially the pipe. The trick about rotating to get the carb lined up is helpful too. I've got a few ideas to work with now. One reason for this swap is I have a title and plate for the 390. Lots of fun playing with these bikes.

If I can not get a usable 390WR engine, my 430WR engine may have multiple homes. I intend to sell the 84 250WR complete this spring as I am likely to prefer the powerband of the 2 82 250WR engines I have over the 84. I have always preferred the open class Husqvarnas over the 250 anyway. Even here in the woods of New England.
