• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

First symptom was a ticking that got worse fast and then she lost all compression 2 miles down into the bottom of a canyon. So, after towing her back up to camp with my Yamaha YZ426 and with my 230 pound brother on her we completely ruined the chain and sprocket on the Yam. Well, upon tearing Husky down... first find was the nuts on the cam gear had backed off (ticking noise)and dropped out of site and then as the jug was removed I discovered the lower end was slapping around side to side and just plain sloppy. The piston and barrel look and fit nice. The cam is shot. This is my first Husky and she died 2 hours into the first day out. I picked up the bike for next to nothing so I don't mind sinking money into it as the rest of the bike is in really great shape and handles like a dream for a big bike. Can anybody refer me to a reputable "older bike" Husky mechanic where I might be able to ship him the engine for rebuild?

Try Uptite or Bill's motorcycles plus, never dealt with either, but have heard good things about each.

The rod in the bottom end is supposed to have side to side movement. The rod is not supposed to have up and down movement if you hold the crank still. You should get a manual and do the job your self. Sending your motor out can be pretty expensive. Hope this helps.

That happened to me shortly after buying mine as well. Sorry you didn't get as lucky as I did. When you get it all squared away I think you will really enjoy the bike they are a ton of fun. I wish I wouldn't have sold mine :(

When those cam bolts are re-installed I would use red or green loc-tite to keep them in place for good. Also pull the sump filter and clean it. You may have to clean it after every ride for awhile until all the shavings come out. Best of luck!
