  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Adventurizing a TXC 449...Anyone done this?

I'm thinking of using my TXC 449 as an adventure bike. I Have to many bikes in garage for actual dirt riding only, 15!YZ250FX, 09 KLX450 and a 09 KX450. KLX is our BITD BIKE so I can't use that. That leaves my TXC 449 for some exploring and relax time. Anyone using their 449/511 for adventure riding? I know Sicass makes a dual sport kit for it. What about panniers? I googled these http://www.motorcycle-luggage-shop....Pro_aluminum_pannier_31_liter_premounted.html Doesn't look like there's much to mount to on side of bike for panniers. What about a tank bag? Am I barking up the wrong tree? What about gearing? Currently running 15/49. I'm also planning on buying the bigger tank from ZipTy.

Zip Ty did one up with the IMS tank and TR headlight and windscreen. Looked nice.

I think Wolfman makes some soft side bags. Not sure I would want heavy hard bags though the Touratech stuff is nice quality. Might want to check what's required to mount those up.

I would like my 449 to have a nice life as a long distance tour/adventure bike someday. With the ZipTy oil system and 1300cc oil, I might be able to ride a day, maybe 2 before needing an oil change.

Go for it, 40t rear cruises nice, no tank bag wear a back pack with your supplies and enjoy. All these bikes won't last forever take good care of them and ride them and enjoy them. Everything is gonna either blow up or die at some point why not use them and have fun on them. I used to worry about torque limiter and oil changes at 300 miles all the time, anymore I just ride them, service them and smile a lot...

Any suggestions on soft bags for rear? I just installed the full ZipTy recirc oil deal so bike is ready to go. Suspension is done and have a Scott's stabilizer on there. All your typical guards are in place to. I want to just do exploring and maybe spend a night or 2 out on the trail. I'm not looking to do 2 week trips

I agree with everything except the tank bag. I put a Wolfman on my te310 and for sit-down street and fire-road cruising it's really nice to get that weight off your shoulders.

Giant Loop bags are good because they don't require any type of racks, I think the latest versions have waterproof stuff sacks. Wolfman just came out with the Enduro Dry series which is pretty nice and a bit more modular and you can strap on a wolfman duffle. If you don't need waterproof the Wolfman E12's are a good cheap starting point. Multi-day dual sport adventures are great on this bike, just not super long distance "adventure" stuff.

Trading a ktm 640 adv for a low hour txc 449. I have a super tenere for adv riding but want something smaller I can dual sport and take on trails.. Call it a adventure lite build. mostly for short weekend runs under 500 miles. I have most things for overnight camping but with the size of this bike I'll mostly flea bag motel it to keep gear packing down.
Here is my to do list to adv out my TXC

I'm in texas. for street legal all you need is front light, tail light, mirror, horn, dot tires and high beam indicator light.

build list:
baja designs xl squadron headlight with dimmer (ktm)
basic horn
HDB hard guards w/pivot mirrors
tourtech 276 gps mounted to center of handle bars.
usb charger
Iphone handlebar mount.
DRC (drz 400) or stock TE tail light with rear brake pressure switch
IMS tank/SC seat
Pivot Pegs (helps with my ankles)
Not sure if I'll get a rear rack.
Giant loop rear bag/ muffler guard.
tank bag.
Mitas c-23 Dakar front tire 60/40 dirt/street
mitas E-07 Dakar rear tire 40/60 dirt/street

CH recommended 449 upgrades as needed.

I am doing kinda that with my TE511 right now. Building it up more for DS and less for off road. Bought a autoclutch and 42 rear sprocket in hopes of spanning the gearing so I can ride tighter single track (autoclutch) and still cruse at 70 (42 tooth sprocket). I also run the Nomad tank on the rear fender for more distance. It is not huge but gets me what I need range wise.

the HDB hand guards are very good but the fold out mirror are just barely usable.

I highly recommend the Seat concepts seat too.

Older pic of my bike but shows the Nomad tank mounted.

Oh, that pic shows the Pirelli MT43 rear which is a great DS tire but I have been running the Kenda 270 rear and liking that more for DS.
