81' 430XC street legal motard conversion in progress.
No before photo. 82' wheel in decent shape - ebay purchase. Needed/wanted the hub assembly, spokes and nipples. Bearings shot, inner bearing spacer corroded, but the hub itself was in decent shape, it had all the spokes and the nipples weren't rusted.
Photo 1: Powdered 82' hub w/ new bearings and nickle plated inner bearing spacer (before final clean up - see all the dust in the hub). The stock powdered 81' backing plate w/ new rubber o-ring.
Post powder, these parts didn't fit together and still "spin". The backing plate would "lock" itself in the hub and prohibt the wheel form rolling. The powder was so thick on both parts that the designed in tolerances were gone. Both parts had to be scraped, sanded and laped before they would work as a unit.
Photo 2: What do we have here? Prepped parts. The above mentioned hub/backing plate. "Wide" EBC brake shoes w/ nickle plated springs. Nickled axle and nut. Nickled chain adjusters w/ a couple of anod nuts. Gold anod wheel spacer. Drilled and powdered brake arm. Cleaned brake actuator. The only BUFO bolt on the whole bike (brake stay arm) and ssteel attachment nut.
Photos 3, 4 and 5: Mounted up and ready for spoke/rim install.
