• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Akront rims and replacement rims

Husqvarna
AA Class
I am looking for some assistance !

I have an original Akront rim all battered and not looking well, I found a replacement Akront “modern remake” and thought all was well. But when rebuilding the newly refurbed hub into the repayment rim the trouble started. The positioning and angle of the spokes differ, you cant get past 6 until one spoke is out of sync ? The replacement rim laid onto a “new” rim, a modern KTM one by chance and all match, my original old battered rim differs ? You cant get the hub/spokes into the replacement rim ?

Whats my solution, what am I missing with spoke angles ?

Thanks

Craig

Lacing rims is not top on my list of 'fun' things to do. Is this for your 72 250 WR or the 77 360 Auto - front or rear?

More often than not (especially for an alloy vs a steel), a rim will have a right and left side for a conical hub and depending on the spoke pattern - cross 2, cross 3, or cross 4, etc. - the holes in the rim will be drilled to specific angles. The Husky rear rim is much more challenging than a CZ or Maico - it has three different length spokes.

If you have access to the MK manual, pages WC-8 though WC-13 are great for a proper lacing guide. If not, here is link to the manual and other Husky related info:

Bottom line - unless the rim is drilled for a Husky rear hub, the chance of any other rim just happening to work is slim.

How much of a difference is there in the angle of the spoke holes between the original rim and the replacement one? Seems to me that if theres a big difference then the problem is with the rim, if there is no difference then its more than likely the lace pattern you're attempting.

If you bought them from the guy in Itlay on ebay the rear rim holes are way off. I would have sent mine back if I hadn't waited a yr to do the work. I am in the middle of this right now and have my drill bit out to modify the angles. The front wheel laced pretty good but the back is a huge pain in the back!! Plus the rims are not as beefy as the originals! And the holes were punched with a oversized punch so you have to use .030 spoke nuts. Good thing it gonna be a lightly ridden bike.

Vinskord mentioned this. The pics of the your rear rim isn't drilled for a conical hub, not just a Husky hub but all conical hubs. The drill pattern is for straight hub like what came on the front of the 76-77 WRs.

This rim was sold as a rim set for a early 400, I figured the hubs are the same, and John at VH says that is correct. As for these rims. Like I said in the othe post. This rear rim is 18".

I dumped the rear wheel! Hey It's only Money...and frustration!! The old Akronts are hard to find and when you do they are Hammered!! I've got a few and they Never true perfectly!! Always some flat spots and a deviation from what looks like bouncing off the Moon!! But these are ONLY Dirt Bikes!! And the Drivability with Knobbys is some what Wonky!! I am an Amateur and I will NEVER Notice the Difference!! Your Mileage My Differ!!
