    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Does any know where to get alloy water pump housings for 430 Autos?
Is this pump housing compatible with other models?
I have found a couple of plastic ones but at high temps they get very flexible & so starts the steam train,
I have on one bike an alloy one & it dosen't have this problem.

The alloy water pumps will fit all models (auto or not)

Husky Products where the makers of the housing I believe. I have no idea on where to find one though, extremely rare and I highly doubt anyone is reproducing them. I bought an extra brand new plastic one from husqvarna-parts.com Those are getting rare as well.

On a side note, plastic or not at high temps it should never leak. It'll only leak if the housing is warped (this happens over time) or the gasket is bad. A trick to make them last a little longer is to make a gasket out of cork. It provides more squish to prolong the life of the housing, but this is just a bandaid and will only work for a short period of time.

I'd say buy a new plastic one while you still can, because supplies are very limited.
 
I found another alloy water pump housing a few months a go on ebay, when I noticed it was alloy and only $29 I grabbed it. This one is a little heavier compared to the alloy one on my wr. I was reading your rebuild the other day & loved it, the thought of 82hp is scary but also something that would be awesome to expierence,
I have a casting company near by do you think people would be interested if I was able to get some made for the right price.

Halls can get them brand new for 180? I may have to give them a call.

I'd be interested but I have a feeling it'll be quite pricey to do just a few. It's not an easy cast to do, it has to be the right size or the impeler will rub on the inside.

And thanks for the kind words on my rebuild, 82 HP is quite the experience haha.
 
We fixed one, down in Baja, using epoxy (thin coat) on the inside of the cover. It was still on the bike (pre-runner) when it was sold. We started doing it to all of our covers, plastic and aluminum, when they were new. This helped stop the coolant from eating at the cover. Also, make sure you have a guard over the cover for protection, very easy to make. Boy, I loved my 430 Auto. Oh, to help cool it I used a right side radiator off a 4-stroke and a higher presure cap, that Dan Smith gave me. My bike needed a 50/50 blend of Sunoco Purple (110 octane) and pump gas to keep it cool. Also use the Zip Ty coolant from Ty Davis, this stuff will not boil and is used by many of the factory Off-Road Teams. Did I say I loved my AUTO.
 
i found collant in my radiator and discovered mine had cancer. it had been previously epoxy'd from the inside as well. I am not sure how long ago because i picked it up last month. Obviously there is quite a bit of corrosion. Fortunately I recieved a parts bike with the deal which had a clean surface. It lookas as though they apllied the epoxy to the front as well.
 
I picked the 430 up last month and while going through it I found some cancer. They too had used epoxy at one time to fix the problem it was applied to both the inside and out. Fortunately I did recievs a parts bike with the deal and was able to perform a transplant rather than surgury. haha.

The epoxy wasn't necessarily a personal fix. In later years and models Husky did that from the factory as the coolant is very corrosive to the Magnesium cases (as you can see)

Now I'm not saying that this is a Husky fix but either way you will want to clean all that up and re-apply epoxy resin to the case so the coolant doesn't eat the cases any more.
 
fortunately I got an 86 xc250 spare parts bike with the deal. So I pulled the pump off it and looked really good. so I changed parts with no problems.I have been lucky so far with having parts I have needed.161.jpg

Nice cover that .
If you check the back , inside , of the pump you will find that it has been epoxy'd from the factory.
It has been said that if you paint the pump area of that cover with a good enamel paint then the coolant should not be able to get at the magnesium and it should last forever.:oldman:
 
i have heard that as well. The 430 looks as though it has had the epoxy from birth but the 250 (bottom pic) did not have it inside or out. they are both 86 models. Anyhow damn glad the cover from the 250 looked so good.
