  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

An Oily Question

Husqvarna
first off i know this is gonna cause great argument however. i have a 2005 250 te and seeing as it is new to me i want to do an oil change on it. i see husky recommend 10 60 so i went into the bike shop near uni and they had motul 10 60 but it was 95 DOLLARS i dont even think it was a 5 ltr container maybe only 4. Now as this is my first bike i only really know car prices of things however that just seems plain ridiculous to me so i was wondering if you guys recommend using a different brand thats a bit cheaper (well quite alot cheaper). like is there a shell or mobil thats reasonable or is the motul the only way to go. also ive read a little about the difference between car and bike oils and there seems differing opinion but some were saying that a car oil will make the wet clutch slip, is that true. i mean i was gonna just put a car oil in it until my friend told me i shouldnt and i did some research so yeah. the other thing i wanted to ask was what coolant do you recommend cos i figure i might aswell drain the coolant and start with all fresh fluids.
cheers
harry
p.s. im in australia

Don't put car oil in, I don't know why but just don't do it!!!

I use Motorex Semi-Synthetic stuff, it's about $70 here in Tassie, I change oil often!!!

You can get motul semi synthetic for 55 buck for 4 litres at present its 10 50 it is perfect. I have used it my Huskies for years.
Change the oil aboyt every 400 to 500 Kms and change the oil filter every second oil change. She will take 1.7 litres per change.
Do not use motor oil. motor bike oil has modifiers in it so the clutch does not slip and also special detergents etc to stop corrosion and oil frothing etc. Car oils are made for different specs.

so is the 10 50 fine aswell. cos i did notice in the bike shop that the 10 60 was a bit more expensive than the 10 (possibly 20) 50.

Oh boy hee hee oil thread warning, please help your self and google it on this forum, many people here have been using shell rotella synt. and their dino version, also Valvoline for diesel truck (not sure of the name) for many years without problem. A well kept secret is better fresh cheaper oil than old expensive oil that has lost it lubricant propriety.

Many people are preaching for expensive X brand oil but i haven't seen many people getting tested their used oil to see what is going with it after 500-1000 miles and compare it with other brand, if Rotella oil is used by trucker that drive a very expensive rig engine for + 1million miles under load i do see see why you cannot use it in a 2,000 $ engine (yes it rev faster and have clutch hence to replace it more often). I even use shell now in my street bike Kawasaki ZX11, snow thrower, generator and lawnmower, just my 2 cent.
