  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi guys and any gjrls. Im new to this page and not sure if im posting in right area as im no computer wizz haha. Plus im new to a husky aswell. Just brough my first bike thats been outside the yamaha range. 09 te510 efi. Great bike. Riding posture is much better for a lad my size of 120kg and 6 foot 4. I never got any books with the bike and im looking at doing oil change. Whats best oil recommendations and how much does it hold and does it have just the one filter also how ofter is the recomended oil change. I do 70 percent town riding and slight traveling at highway speed and 30 offroad trails mustering cattle or hunting I Live in Australia where its hot so id have to go a full synthetic as all my bikes were running full synthetic. And is there anything i need to know about the bikes. Any common issues and things to look out for. It has 6000km on it. I have already blown the intake manifold boot to pieces and replaced from a backfire so no need for that heads up. Thanks heaps for any help. Cheers

Mobil 5w40 oil instead of 10w60. Big difference in how the motor performs and the clutch is smoother. Oil changes will depend on conditions of riding. I usually change oil every other ride off-road. Go over the wiring very closely checking for any wear points throughout the chassis. Pull the linkage and swingarm and regrease it. Only use mineral oil in the clutch master cylinder. No brake fluid. Magura blood, motul, or singer sewing oil. Back bleed from the slave to the master with a syringe with a hose connected to it. Factory slave housing and piston were known to fail. Zipty racing sells a new slave housing in case the stock circlip groove is broken. 7602 racing sells a larger and better slave piston that has less chance of turning sideways and failing. Check the crossover hose between radiators. Replace with fuel injection hose since the factory hose is prone to failure. Replace the fuses under the seat and carry a couple extra taped in a baggy under there. Dielectric grease all electrical connections. Bar mounts can be rotated 180* to move them forward or back.

Be prepared to love your new investment!

I changed oil on my 2010 TE450 every 1000 miles, filter as well, used Mobil1 15w50 then started mixing 0w40 and 15w50 half and half. Ran the bike up to 20,000 miles. My friend, you have purchased a Project bike, you WILL get to know every square inch of the bike, if you keep it. Check my thread

If the muffler is an Arrow, dont ever try to repack it......

Was there a difference in how they put the 09' and up cans together? When I replaced my 08's packing, it came apart easily and went back together easily.

True, that mine was a 2010 and the muffler (Arrow) was a one-off, no other year would fit mine. The Arrow I had was sealed stainless construction, had to be sawed apart and then pieced back together. The 2009 might be more like yours.

I thought the 08's were the only ones that were different. Who knows what they were thinking with those last few years of the big blocks!

Sorry for such late reply fellas. Had no i ternet as im away on hols. Fixed last problems now im having more. The thing started dying under throttle. Now it idles for less then 5s and turns off with fail on screen. If i leave it a day i can ride it a block and then it goes to fail and shuts off. Its had brand mew iridium plug cap and lead is std. New intake manifold boot as it blew to smithereens. New air filter. Was running great now i did some indicators in and then first ride it started playing up. Any suggestions. But tomorrow im stripping fuel tank and draining it and looking for visual signs as ive herd they have know probs with fuel filters and pumps in tanks? Also going to look for visual signs of wire rubbings on chassis and what not. Just odd it ru s for a while then it stops and no matter what i do it wont run. If i leave the bike a while it runs for that one block again and goes on with its shit lol. Cheers lads.

Also i put about 4l of 91 octane into my safari tank before realising and just topped it rest of the way up with 98 that ive always run i it.
