  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Any TXC449 owners out there

If so let me hear some real world feedback....the good the bad the ugly

I was able to take a quick test spin on one as well as a TE449,'11 TE250 TXC250 & '11 TE310 and the TXC449 stood out for me. It just felt so much lively and freer flowing then the others. The TE449 had the stock can which I'm sure made it feel much more sedate then the TXC449 plus the added weight did seem to feel noticable to me.
Anyhoo if anyone out there has some time on one I'd love to hear your impressions.

You will see my TXC511 reports scattered about and Motosportz TE511. I thought I was going to get a 310 until I tried the TXC511 ..I think the CTS based chassis is a big improvement and I love the instant throttle response and smooth power.

We have a TXC511. It should have the same power delivery as the TE511, when you put on the "performance" muffler on the TE.

The TXC / TE do not have the same power as the TC, which has different camshafts, 13:1 compression ratio (vice 12:1), different ECU mapping, and different throttle body manifold.

Great suspension, after a bit of tuning (largely the same KYB setup as about a zillion Yamahas), light feeling on top for a not so light bike, mostly quality parts for a good overall price. Vibration is largely removed compared to legacy, non-counter balance bikes. The company should have some stability with BMW ownership.

Nits are that the chain on ours is absolute junk (it's thrashed in less than 10 hours), the power of the TXC is not up to the "legacy" 510 motor (I can't compare to the TC, however).

Like the bike overall. Green sticker approved for Kalifornia.

Thanks guys. I've read some of your stuff was just hoping there may have been some hidden TXC449 owner who might pipe in.
I felt there was a noticable difference between the TE and TXC so that's why I was looking for TXC specific opinions.

Well took the plunge and I'll be breaking it in tomorrow at the MX track so I guess I'll have some feedback shortly. Here are a couple of pics and I took some of the new P3 pipe guards and skid plate which are excellent looking and fitting and I believe they should be available now for those interested.

Looks Awsome, you made the right choice,I rode the TXC and TE back to back in the desert and felt alot more comfortable on the TXc,however in oegon tight woods a Te with pipe would be just fine.I rode my Te449 about 115 miles now and lovin it.billf.P3 stuff is great !

Well broke it in at the MX track today and here are some quick impressions. Keep in mind I'm a 52y/o B level age group mid pack rider these days

motor - In a word "awesome"! Smooth lively and very user friendly and the FI is flawless. Clutch works great and shifting is easy and precise. Having owned a G450X I knew the engine wouldn't disappoint and it didn't. Why Husky can't get the FI on the TE250/310 platform to perform like this is beyond my comprehension. I had no trouble hanging with like skilled pilots on any of the Jap 450 MXers that were out there.

suspension - Not so good. The front end feels like it's sprung for SX. I've got my work cut out to get it sprung and setup for my weight and ability. The back end for my weight(165lbs)will need a one step lighter spring as I can't get the sag where I need it but all in all the front was so harsh that I'll have to wait before I can pass proper judgement on the rear besides spring rates at this point.

handling - In spite of being beat up by the harsh front end the bike never exhibited any bad traits and I was surprised at how well it turned and for the most part how planted it was with the front being like it was. I've no doubt that once I get the suspension set up and balanced that this bike will rail as it was really good thru the deep rutted turns that littered the track today. I also had no problem cutting the inside line when I chose too.

Misc - It definitely carries it's weight well and jumps effortlessly. I remember reading somewhere that some test said it wasn't a good jumper or felt heavy or something to that effect and man I never had that feeling at all. Chain guide rubs on the sprocket like some have mentioned. Rear fender flops around a bit too much for my liking. P3 pipe guards worked great and I never felt the heat from the pipe or silencer while riding and it was a hot humid day today so it was a good test of those I'd highly recommend these to TE/TXC/TC owners. Brakes work well and the front is one finger strong. Pirelli tires worked great for our eastern intermediate loam. I know some have said the seat is too hard but I have no complaints. Also I never had the rear fender with it's odd shape hit me in the rear so no issue there for me as well. While the bike is slightly bigger and wider then your typical big 5 offering I never felt that while under way and I was instantly comfortable with the layout and ergos.

All in all I'm very pleased and I'm excited to get the suspension dialed as I know that the goods are there it's just a matter of massaging it to get it to work for my ability and weight.

Spin the compression clickers on the forks all the way out and give it some hours to break in, they will be much different with time and adjustment. Great report. That is one sweet motor even if it is not the fastest one around. I bet at the end of the moto your faster than on a bike with a brutal hit (feels fast) type motor.

It's on full soft now. This is more then a break in issue for me unfortunately
The motor is pure magic!

you must be on the light side huh? the T/C forks do get MUCH better with time.

Yes I'm a 165lbs and I've had the T/C KYBs on my '10 TC250 which now reside on my '10 WR300 and they were never this stiff. While I agree on break in that is more of a Zoke issue then a KYB characteristic. KYBs are pretty good off the get go where the Zokes definitely feel tight till they get some hard miles on them. I'm guessing between the target weight of the rider they shot for and the extra overall bulk of a 450 that it comes sprung for someone closer to 200lbs.
Still in spite of the springs being off for me I'm really pleased with the package and I know once I sort that out it'll be as good as it gets!

I weight 250ish and am very pleased with the stiffer suspension on my TXC511 ... my WR300 is plush in comparison. Until the TXC every bike I bought was set up for lighter guys like you. For slower trails the 300 is good. High speed desert whoops makes the TXC shine.
