TE/TC Anyone play with OEM 35/35W to brighter lite upgrades?

rode through some railroad tunnels recently........... of course going from bright sun to dark tunnel required a little eyeball adjustment but even after getting my night vision on.......I couldn't see crap and got some serious spatial disorientation. trick was to go really slow with feet sliding in the rails as a guide....or better wait for the guy behind me with the Baja designs super bright light kit to cast a sun like beam through and ahead of me. (Baja designs is most excellent but at 375-800 bucks I can do without it).
internet folks say that we use an AC lighting system, making an led type set up, not a viable option. our 35/35 ??lumens headlight is minimal at best anyone simply throw in a ex. 35/65? or some other higher wattage / brighter lumens bulb. Is our stator capable of loading it with more watts??

I use one of these my buddies and I road Slickrock trail in Moab at night and for the money this light was brighter and had a better pattern then any of the halogen headlights the others used and was comparable to a high dollar Baja Designs lite.

He cant use led due to regulated ac out put, same issue with my 360 mate, i blew up a led one before realising, ive resigned to the fact that its either bicycle led headlight on helmet or hid kit in a halogen housing... Watching too see what comes of this thread.

note I have not looked into our 2014 electrical system if its AC or DC, I just saw internet threads that pointed out that late model KTM 2 strokes were all AC lighting systems, so I made the assumption we have AC. so juicypips definitive word will will sure be helpful, so it is for sure an AC system?, thanks all.

I'm going through the same thing with my WR. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to electrical systems. I've been toying with the idea of putting some of these bicycle mountain bike lights on my dirt bike: http://www.amazon.com/Refun-Headlig...880962&sr=8-5&keywords=cree+led+bicycle+light
I have several similar to that for use on my mountain bike.

I can tell you that from my mountain biking experience, these are incredibly bright and very reliable. I mean they are bight!!!

Just have to figure out how to convert the 12v output to 6v.

I think if I bought them for the dirt bike I would ditch batteries (actually, Id save them as backups for mountain biking) and wire them directly into the electrical system, or find a small self regulated lion battery similar to the EarthX. You don't need much of a battery just enough to keep the light output constant when the RPMs go up and down. Even a large capacitor would work. Capacitors can be had for about $20.

Had a power capacitor and it smoothed out the pulses but the diode blew eventually, not repaired it or rigged it up again since. Torch head mounted is the best way forwards as anywhere you look theres light. Happy days.

I recently purchased a Cyclops Adventure Sports 3800 Lumen H4 LED headlight bulb for my 310R which fortunately has a DC power. However, for $20 Cyclops sells a rectifier for bikes with AC powered headlights that will allow it to work.

Cyclops also sells a 3600 Lumen LED for slightly less that is supposed provide a better beam pattern for offroad applications and which has received some great reviews on other forums. Power draw is only 20W low bean & 30W high. Unlike the 3800 Lumen bulb it is offered with a Ba20d, H6m or H4 base and can be order with a "KTM Style" connector.

I am supposed to receive my bulb tomorrow and hoping for a dramatic improvement. As Robert observed, that 35W OEM halogen bulb is downright dangerous in certain situations.

Here's a pretty easy upgrade for the stock light. I've used them in several KTM's and Husabergs and have one in my '14. WAY brighter than stock, great upgrade for the money. http://www.pmxtec.com/Upgrade3.htm

You should be able to rig up a small cheap rectifier (diode bridge) to run those LED lights on DC from an AC system. I have also seen posts where you can do a simple mod to the stator to get DC. Not sure if that is applicable here. Cam.

The led's i used blew out the primary diode on the light board, what size would be suitable for 27odd regulated ac? And should i put capacitor before or after the diode?
