• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Anyone put a WR250 engine in a WR/CR 125 frame???

fletchman45

Husqvarna
Pro Class
I know this topic has been discussed in the past but has anyone done it or seen it done? I am thinking seriously on doing this but would like to ride a 165 first to form and opinion if the swap would be worth it. Has anyone looked at the ide of the 250 engine and does it look super difficult or not???????

Will be a ton of work. Motor is much bigger as is the pipe and the lower frame cradles are much smaller on the 125 frame. Then you have to deal with the chain on the other side and what that does with the airbox and shock locations. Depending on you and where you ride I would rather have the 165 over the 250 all day long every day period. The 165 is the perfect motor for my needs.

Sounds like a lot of work! A 165 for me may be the ticket for next year. Thanks.

I remember talking to Professor Smith (WB) about doing just that. Walt never said too much and it wasn't until later when I had a 165 that I realized why. The motor is the heart of what makes it what it is and for the riding I do has more than enough power without the bigger gyro effects/weight of the 250/300 motor.
I love my 250 don't get me wrong, but the 165 is more fun and easier to ride when it gets technical.

for woods riding / racing it will be hard to beat. More power is not always better. Did a semi gnarly ride with a buddy with a WR250 and a guy with a 2012 KTM 450SX. I waited a lot for them. Sat at the top of a few hills eating and resting while I heard them taking tries at the hill. Love it. the 165 climbs like a billy goat as it makes good power but not so much you are sideways in the trail. Dude on the KTM loved my 165 and was a good bit faster on it instantly. I actually liked his 450SX but after about 3 miles i was wanting my EZ to ride 165 back.

My WR300 does everything better than my WR144, the 144 is fun to ride but I'm faster everywhere on the 300.

I have to agree with you Even tho in 2008 I won a National # 1 plate in the open class on a stock 125.I raced a 165 for 2 years and it is a super bike one of the best a do all bike I would race it any where from wide open desert to King of the Moto tuff But once I got my 300 dialed in with Ohliens ft and rear
the 300 started to give me better overall finishes every where. I might just ride the 300 at King of the Moto come Feb
But it took me some time and money to make the 300 better In stock trim side by side the 165 is better then a 300 The 300 is a hand full I still believe more people would have a better day on the 165 A well dialed in 300 just takes it to another level the 165 can not reach if you can hand on to it

In our build a dream bike topic we stuffed the Cr250 1999 in the TC250 frame but lots of things to overcome so we stopped but it could be dome its chain alignment and swingarm pivot also it actually does line up ,if anyone wants to do it ill sell a 2010 TC250 frame for $100 that we already bent the front motor mounts to slide it in.

PM to you.

I ride with Mantrap and he is faster on a 300 for some reason. He uses and auto clutch on both bikes. Yes even the 144! He has his 300 dialed to his likings and is a fair A rider. I rode his 144 with the auto clutch and hated it with it set up like that but have never had one. The 144 can be tough when you make a mistake. But a 165 seems to be something I need to try. I am pretty sure with a WR 250 engine stuffed in that chassis you would have one sweet bike! We will see how much time I get off this winter and what happens.
