• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Best over the boot pants?

After many times at creek crossings having my boots filled from the top with water I feel the need to convert to over the boot pants. They need to fit over knee braces like the Pod MX and hopefully come in tall sizes, 38-40 inch inseam.

i dont have any over the boots pants and havent owned any yet but klim seem to be the pants of choice in that style from what ive heard and seen.

+1 on Klim. I have two pair, one mesh and they're great. Well made, rugged and none of that 1/4" high HUGE rubber logo crap like all the other companies put on their gear because they're more interested in charging you to advertise for them than providing good riding gear.

I am new to the over the boot scene....and I just bought a pair of the Scott Adventure pant so havent tried them yet

think they will be perfect for wet, snotty, rainy conditions.....

they seem to fit true to size and are very HD..I'm hoping they dont take too long to get used to...they were $100 which I though was a good deal...but no zip off legs which is fine by me

I own two pairs of the Scott adventure and love them I ran hare scrambles and enduro with them. There just like MX paints

Again, Klim. I have the over the boot for crap conditions and DS. Also have three in the boot, one of those is the full mesh for when it get's hot and humid. I've had the over the boot for 4 years and aside from the Husky mid pipe melt, they've been flawless.

+1 on Klim. Great pants and I have several pair, over the boot and in the boot. I also have the Traverse pants and jacket and for dual sport they are hard to beat. I wore them on the TAT during the summer and never suffered, plus they keep the rain and cold out. I even use them for street riding on my BMW when the weather is iffy.

On a budget, I like my Tour Master stuff. I almost bought Klim, but I thought I'd try some cheaper stuff first. I have Tour Master Caliber pants and a Tour Master Transition Series 2 jacket. They have kept me dry even in severe downpours.

I have found that the over the boot pants don't stop the water from getting in the boots. In some cases they channel the water that comes up and nicely return it to the top of your boot. If I am going out in wet conditions or on a ride that crosses a lot of water I will wrap the bottom of my over the boot pants with some tape to keep the water out. I am running Fox nomad pants they are comfortable and fit nicely over the knee guards.

Over the boot is all I ride. Although I do have some Fox vented gear that I got on the cheap & use on those really hot/humid days

The Klim's are nice and you can get them on sale & they are durable, which is important as OTB pants snag on stuff when the trail is tight. I've also been lucky enough to miss the peg with my boot while riding & have the joy of the pants end snagging the peg. The Klim pockets are on the smaller side & hard to getting into with the openings. A little plain in color & styling but the most technically sound.
A close second IMO to the Klim's are the Shift line of "Squadron" Pants. Leather on the inside lower/bottom of the pants so it's a little harder to burn the pants through & resists tearing. They have some really cool designs, I have last years woodlands camo & the urban camo. The Shift pants are also vented, a little lower on the leg. I keep the top pockets open 'cause the pocket liner is made of a vented material. The Squadron's may have as much venting as the Klim's These also have belt lops, which the way my belly tends to expand & contract over a year comes in handy.
Lastly is the Answer "Mode" over the boot pant. A much simpler design. 2 pockets & that's it. Much lighter than the two mentioned above & not as "durable". Although I've had this pair for 4 years & still wear them. The bottom of the leg is still together & safe, but it's a little ragged. They are the lightest of the ones I have used.
The downside to OTB pants is they are heavier than standard pants, they seem to hold moisture when you ride in water & you still get water in your boots and just that much more material makes them heavier. They do snag & tear along the bottom edges when the trail is tight & they will snag the peg erroneously. But once you get used to that & learn the "technique" they are great.
The upside of them are they protect your boot uppers, my boot straps & buckles still look really good. The buckles rarely come undone & I can carry energy bars, goggle wipes, rags and even have carried an extra pair of gloves & goggles in the pockets. And they tend to be warmer, so on those cool & cold days I'm glad I wear them. And when it's hot I'll some times ride with the bottms off. Riding in shorts & knee braces.

The Answer Mode pants back in 2008, not a good pic, sorry

Sorry, haven't been racing much lately, so no picks of the Klims in action.... Good luck with you decision.

My Gearne boots are excellent for everything but keeping my feet dry. I've been wearing Klim Chinook pants but I didn't buy the tall size so as they taper down higher on my shins they leave less room for plain shin guards. I'm going to get a better set of knee guards so I thought overboot pants would be the answer.

Klim Dakar's hands down! Unless it's above 60F, then you'll melt if you're working the bike in tight stuff. Good supple leather inner calf reinforcement and good fit. I'm using the tall version to keep the cuff down on the boot if I'm sitting and splashing through water. Alpinestar knee guards worn every ride under them. Pretty darn good at keeping the water out unless you are playing in deep stuff, then nothing's going to work any better. I'm using Sidi Crossfire boots and find my feet get wet from sweat, not from external sources unless I crash in a river or creek which would get anything wet regardless. Klim sure ain't cheap, but you do seem to get what you pay for...

I use the Mojave for warmer weather, equally as good for what it's designed to do.

The Klim OTB pants have adjustable bottom cuff sizes via a side slit and velcro. You can use this to fit the pant pretty tightly to the boot, which minimize the tendency of a loose overpant to catch on the peg.

Klim Dakar over the boot pants are a good choice and they are one of the few available in tall sizes. They fit well and won't be too short. I usually only wear mine when dual sport riding when I may be going into public places and don't want to look like an alien. I have the chinooks too and I know what you mean about the length and not much room for knee guards. I still haven't found in the boot pants that are long enough to be comfortable with knee guards and not ride up on my legs. But I still wear in the boot pants most of the time for racing and riding off road. Hmm, I wonder what Rick Smitts wears? Ive seen pictures of him at races with in the boot pants...must be custom made.

I have some Fox 360 in the boot pants that I wear with knee guards. They work fine.

I have some fox 360's too. When you have a 34 waist and 38" inseam, the knee bend in the pants ends up being way higher than where my knee actually bends.

That's it exactly, the taper that is supposed to be at your shin is up toward your knee so the bottom of your knee guards don't have enough room
