  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Best X-light skid plate?

I just ordered a Hyde Skidplate in black. I like the appearance/fit better than the TMD and seems well liked (while being a little less than the P3)...

I got the TMD plastic one in Red. Looks good, Holding up well. Its one of the cheapest on the market also but not lacking quality. Only down side of TMD skid plate is 5 bolts to remove rather than 1.

My Hyde Skid Plate just arrived in time to load up as am heading to Sheboygan, WI. by way of Flagstaff, Santa Fe, CO, NE, etc...

Looks and fits like a nice pair of Italian shoes. Perfect for the Italian Husky. A small inch by 2 inch plate sits above the rectangular cutaway in back. Easy enough to put a bit of goop or silicone on it to keep it in place. Nice thing is it has great coverage completely over the oil filter cap and halfway over the stator cover, as well as all the way back to the linkage. It is a perfect accompaniment to the Zip Ty Drain Back Kit

I got the P3 one and bolts up the same way as the Hyde, fits like a glove, ive hit a couple times now and seems to hold up, was a little worried about the carbon but seems to be ok.

I ran a Hyde on my 310 and it fit really nice and the looks were second to none. Seemed to hold up really well too. Watch the rear mounting plate for tightness. I lost mine this spring but made another one easy enough. I used a nylock nut on the new one so it won't come loose. In hind sight, I should have just used blue thread locker on the first one and it wouldn't have fallen off.

Anyone owned both at Hyde and the TMD It looks like they use different plastics? I've owned some of the other TMD products and they've held up well. That said the Hyde looks like a tighter fit. The prices are about the same as well.

Pros Cons you guys went thru when buying. . .

wink.....The best Alloy skid plate?
The one I got from CH Racing Italia, this one comes with 3 world championships from Salminen and Meo on the 250/310 platform.

I've always used aluminum in the past but in the last 10 years plastics have come a long way and I think in some ways better. It looks like both Hyde and the TMD use different ones. I didn't check there site to see if it's listed.

The up-tite skids are a work of art. Don't know if George is still making them though.

There's still a few piles around, some newer stuff for Beta. I would say he generally has stuff for 2008 on but not sure on newer models since he is no longer a dealer. Some older stuff maybe. A few 2stroke models.

I'm going with one from ZipTy, uses stock mounting locations, which means one bolt up front by header. Easy on & off for frequent x-light oil changes. Gotta confirm the correct one, will call tomorrow.
