• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Beta 300RR

Husqvarna
Pro Class
One of our crew and CH member just got his. I have not seen his or ridden one yet. He and the crew members that hae ridden it have big praise for the ridability and smoothness of the Beta. I cant wait to throw a leg over this thing (well I did but it was at the dealer), to ride the thing is what I meant.

I have my 250RR out of the crate, and will try it later in the week. I have a deep attachment to my Husky's, but this bike looks very nice. Comes pretty much ready to go, just need to cut the bars and add bark busters.

I rode a 300RR.... Nice motor, but doesn't handle like a Husky. It seemed like a KTM linkage bike to me.

Norm I agree it does feel a bit KTMish until it is set up correctly. I have 300 race with the zoke forks and it was a bit weird feeling when I first rode it but once I got everything where I like it it was a whole different bike. I find this bike very sensitive to adjustments unlike Husky. You can more stuff all over the place on a Husky and it feels almost the same all the time.
The Beta feels more alive in the front end which I like. Very small inputs to the bars is all it takes to make a turn. The most interesting thing about it is how well it finds traction, the thing is a billy goat.

I'm sure I could get it set up to my liking, just like I did my Husaberg TE250. It just isn't the "Neutral" bike a Husky is.

Put gas in the 250RR today and did a quick "yard test" Started instantly, and seems to be jetted perfectly. Putted at slow speeds for extended times and no blubber or hesitation when you open it up. Comfortable standing position, feels a lot like a trials bike. Motor really grunts on the bottom, Mr Auto Clutch here has yet to stall it. Seat may be a bit on the hard side, but then again I have never had a new bike before, may soften up. American Beta does have alternate foams if I need to change.

Rode 2 2013 300RR Betas on Fri, just short loops with one big hillclimb, 1 familiar rock climb and descent.
Bike 1 was 100% OEM stock and had some clickers play on the front , it felt bouncey up front the rear was good, this is only suspension tweaks, the motor is very nice and user friendly, I like this bike.
Bike 2 is a work in progress off road legend owned machine, this bike has been massaged by the TBT suspension guru
http://www.tbtracing.com/about.php

It was mentioned that TBT had done some machining/drilling bleeds type stuff on the forks (Sachs), The forks on this bike were super good and stuck like glue and blew through the high speed hits very cleanly with no deflection. Owner mentioned that he was not interested in big mods only incremental tweaks. Owner is stoked with the 300RR as a single track trail/tecate HS/XC bike and mentioned he will also get a 450 for his occaisional H&H/WORCS type big course events.

My quick and short loop opinion, very nice machines, OEM 2013 KTM300XC-W forks were better than OEM Beta Sachs but the TBT tweaked forks are comparable for sure.
The motor is very easy to ride and magic in technical rocks, you can stay up a gear and low rpm ride through stuff smoothly. The feel of the machine is very good for me all the controls are EU standard suppliers and feel like the other EU brands.

I may want to check out TBT in the future, I see they have an outlet in N. Carolina, wonder if they can do the same mods there?
