  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Bing Carbs

yes it is possible .....go to your local builders merchant and ask them for a standard house brick....get a diamond core bit and drill a 32/36/38mm hole in it and voila! a bing carb.... seriously if you want to ride or race get a mikuni....if you want to show only the bing would be fine.

I see there are a couple of seperate posts by "supermoto" about carbs..so posting in both!
I have stayed with the Bings on both my huskies and my Bultaco.... I think they are great company Good Carbs with parts and technical information readily available ... I bought a '73 Honda Cr250 ElSinore and Because I could not get Jets for the original Keihin.. The seller (A Vintage Shop) gave me a NEW mikuni Carb. (I also ended up needing new custom made throttle cable)
I am having a heck of a time jetting it.. I called Mikuini to ask about jetting and was referred to Sudco.. Sudco were JERKS!...they told me to buy a New Carb from them and they would jet it for me..THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY JETTING ADVICE...I am talking to "tuning" shops on the West Coast, doing the jetting by sheeer trial & error now...IT SUCKS!!!
I can call Bing and they offer jetting & technical advice...over the phone.
I know that Mikuni has great machining and the carbs are well built...but I will take GREAT customer service over the great machining of the Mikuni ...any day!!! What good is a GREAT Carb if you cannot get it set up?... Better to have one that can be set up & running instead of 'chasing' plug readings, pilot jet throttle response, "light switch" top end....etc.. I would stay with the Bing and ..... $##&* the Mikuni!!!

Mike 328,

I know what you are talking about with sudco, if you get a carb they sold jetted for a 500 and want to buy stuff to make it better for a 430 and I am talking keihin not micuni here I got pretty much what you got over the phone. They are in business and have their business model it costs wages benefits unemployment payroll deductions various overhead etc etc. I can respect their right to have a business model. I even think you have to buy four packs of jets not singles. Wait another five or 10 years and you probably can get a fuel injection system to tune via laptop or other computer device.

As far as the bing goes, I never have felt the need to change out the ones on my vintage bmw. They did come out with an updated needle and seat which one had to buy a new cap. I wonder if a lot of this stuff comes down to the taper of the needle more than anything else.

Fran.... Thanks for verifying Sudco's 'customer service'... I initially thought it was just me!.. heck if they would have helped or given me some direction I would have bought my jets from them!.. and paid shipping etc.. I am talking to a tuner on the west coast and he too has a business model, overhead, umemployment deductions.. just like Sudco!.... BUT his business model is more customer service oriented, Just like BING..
I havent even bought anything from the 'tuner' shop!.. I did ask if I could get my jets from him, but he didnt have em, yet he still helped!
My Bings were so worn out; the slides were worn, the needle jet pitted etc... I had to get them rebuilt & sent them to BING.

I ran a Bing on my Ossa for 3 years and it always worked fine. They are not oversensitive with jetting and start easy. Just make sure the slide, needle and needle jet aren't worn.

I have a Bing on a Penton and on my 73 Husky. Both carbs have been rebuilt by me and they both work perfectly, other than the puking of fuel on to the motor, using the tickler.
Bing International have been great to deal with and have great customer service.
One thing I will say is, all jet needles (slide needles) are not the same. On my Penton Trials bike I had some blubbering going on at 1/8 throttle. My needle felt a little worn, even though it and the needle jet were replaced at the same time. I could feel it when I ran it through my fingers. I bought a new one and before I put it in, I could feel the same thing, and the bike ran the same. I ordered another one and it was perfect. I couln't feel anything when I ran it through my fingers and when I put it in the carb, the bike ran great. Two brand new needles, but different.

Seemed I opened up a can of worms but thanks guys for your input, maybe I,ve done the wrong thing but
I,ve now ordered a Mikuni from Chuck at Husky Junk, hopefully setting up won,t be do much of a bitch,
I,ll keep you updated when fitted.

"super"?.....No problem, it's all about personal preference...thats why Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors!..lol
I consider this a forum for us to share our experiences..
