    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Hello everyone, this is my first post but I have been lurking for quite some time!!! I have an 08 TE450 and thus far the bike has been fantastic, love it to bits!! Hadn't had a single issue until a couple of weekends ago when I broke the numberplate bracket, I was going to get it welded so until I had time to get it done I decided to remove all the indicators, taillight and the numberplate fender itself.

So I head out yesterday and I had done about 50km of riding and was having a good old fang down a forsetry road at about 100km/h and the headlight and instrument display started to flicker and then just went all together. Got home and checked the fuses and found that the 20A fuse on the right hand side of the bike had blown. Cool that's easy just throw another one in and away we go again. So I replace it and turn the bike on and the instrument display lights up and I thought all was good. SAdly not, as soon as the bike is actually started the fuse blows again!!

Has this happened to anyone else before, I assume it has something to do with me removing the indicators and tailight etc, i taped up the connectors individually and then cable tied them together, i thought that would be ok.

Any ideas? I am not very mechanically minded, I am ok with general servicing but some things go straight over my head!!
 
I'd go back and check all the hot connections you unplugged when removing all the ELEC stuff... Something probably get loose and vibrated into some metal and is grounding out the system...
 
I had something similar on my '09 when I first got it. The earth lug in the rear tail light (Brake) was coming lose and sliding back out and shorting.

put some shrinkwrap tubing and then electrical tape the living hell out of the battery terminal leads where the leads plug into the block attached to the subframe (see the attachment). Having this ground was blowing "the big fuse". There is enough movement in the battery to short out the lead either on the frame or the battery strap hardware.

I know carry fuses in my toolkit. There are fuses under both side covers.

There are some commerical products call rubber coat and or electrical tape in a can.. Both great at coating these types of areas where a "NO CONTACT" item will leave you stranded..
I put a heavy closed cell foam about 2" thick over the battery and the seat compreses it down and you could elminate the strap as it hold downs everything good and tight..

Well after a few hours of pondering and then the process of elimination I have finally found the short. I have a feeling this may be quite uncommon!! I blew the low beam wire inside the headlight globe which dropped over the high beam wire causing the short. So simple yet so sneeky!! So happy to have found it****************************************
