  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Buying a TE449

Campbell

Husqvarna
AA Class
My son is looking at buying a TE449, any advantages/differences between year models?

I have a G450X so am familiar with TL/FBW butterfly etc.

Any input appreciated.

Frame, wiring loom, and suspension was changed for 2012. Can't think of much that changed from then to 2014 other than graphics, wheels, and stock tires. Oh, and many of the 2011 ECUs are locked and can't be remapped. Mine is one of those:cry:. However I've got over 1500 miles on mine and love it. If I had to do it again, I'd be all over it. Been thinking about modifying the shock length and getting it and the forks dialed by ZipTy but haven't done it yet. My thoughts of entering some Hare and Hound races may change that.

You've got the basics dialed already, and quite a few great guys in Oz that love them and have come up with lots of handy tricks and tips.

After your G450X 5 speed you will hate the TE449 6 speed. The Italians screwed that puppy.

Bike would be for my son who is currently riding a very well sorted 09WR450F but has itchy feet for a change.

Hell will freeze over before I part with the G450X, of all the BS that was put about regarding this bike only the mediocre suspension and Seat where genuine . The chassis set up was oriented towards high speed stability more than low speed quick steering. If your riding tight single track fit the Speedbrain shock bracket, 5min tops. KYB SSS forks from a TC250 with softer cartridge spring and Ohlins TTX44 PDS and the suspension is superb.

As you rightly pointed out the 5 speed on the G450X is spot on, I haven't had anyone ride my bike and not comment favourably about the ratios. Properly set up this engine produces more than enough Hp and Revs to cope with the ratio spread. What idiot tests a bike in low power mode, Cat EX and 15/48 Final Drive. Of course forum wankers who have never thrown a leg over a well sorted bike will continue to criticise with authority, some things you can't fix!

I just bought a New Yam WR450F and put lights and a plate on it to replace my TE449. It will idle slow enough (4.5 MPH) in first and cruse fast enough for me (65 MPH) in fifth. The TE449 is a great bike but it will not do that. I actually contemplated putting the G450X tyranny in my TE440. But for now I am going to try the WR450 and use the TE449 as a backup.

May be your ECU is from EUR/AUS models, accidentally, factory error? Try to reload EUR/AUS map.
Last week I was remapping TE449 of my friend by HST. More attempts - no response! I decided to reload USA/CAN map to ECU, and it was complete!

Funny how different people are isn't it?
I had an '05 WR450 and wanted the new model when it came out.....until I rode it.
It was to me a disappointment, heavy & felt no different to my old well sorted bike. The efi ran the same as my carb model and I felt I wasn't getting anything new for my money.
I bought the much cheaper TE449, I suffered the efi issues, but sorted them myself eventually and have a great bike.
Yes, the gearing sucks, but we don't do much 6th gear stuff in our areas, it suits me perfectly.
I'll be looking to upgrade this year and the Sherco 450 has my interest at the moment.
