  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Carb question

I began tearing down my '77 250CR this weekend and had an unexpected suprise. When I took the airbox cover off I found that a mouse had decided to build his home there. He chewed up everything in there...filter, plastic on the filter cage, etc. Heck, it even ate part of the airbox and inlet to the carb. I never knew mice would eat metal..no wonder his old bones fell out with the rest of the crap. Grrrr, I hate mice. Now I'm going to have to replace the airbox and carb. I got an ok airbox from Ebay but am wondering what to get to replace the carb. The original is a Bing 54 but I think a Mikuni 38mm was used in an '78 250CR. Do you all think I should change to to a Mikuni? Would a new 36mm Mikuni be a good choice or should I try and find a 38mm? Any input would be appreciated.

I love BING's and if it were mine the Bing would stay but if hell froze over and I put a Mikuni on it I would go with a 36mm. It's really what ever YOU want to do with it. Now all the 38mm Mikuni fans can chime in now.

go with a 38 Mikuni

I had a 78 250 CR & just sold it. It had a 38 mm Mikuni, i'd go with that , 38 is perfect for the 250, nice low end power.

A 36 will give better low / midrange as compared to a 38.. unless you like riding a screamer, then go for 38,
A 36 isnt bad for a 400 bike either , so there you go.
