• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Case half question

Does anyone know if a lh case from a 86 wr400 will fit a 1982 cr430 . The part numbers in question are ?? 1619823-01 and 1619688-01 (86)....

Cheers

Mike

The insert at the rear for the swingarm pivot is different. Those part numbers would come with all the inserts even though the inserts have seperate part numbers. Probably would need a custom one, An older one might fit but not all my inserts seem exactly the same outside diameter. I am not a fan on sleeving them down. If you get a case the rear insert has vibrated around then you get into matching the width of the back of the engine. The cases are numbered in pairs and machined as such. The surface for the cylinder might be a bit off, a couple of thousands of an inch or so.

Always a risk using an unmatched pair of crank cases, it is not as if the engines did not vibrate a bit already.

I was more concerned about the shafts lining up and the width of the crank. I will probably weld my existing case half. Just saw a cheap one on eBay. Thought it might be a viable alternative if I have a meltdown. They look similar enough to warrant consideration. I know the 84 models used the same part numbers as the 82.

84 would be dual shock 12 mm swingarm bolt.

At some point the way the shaft the intermediate starter gear rides on gets an improved attachment mechanism. Probably by 1986, you will see two fastners with 10mm hex heads incorporated into that piece. If your case needs welded because of a kick back and the crack goes through that intermediate point be advised the later ones are at least somewhat improved.

I got a set of centercases from an 84 250CR L/C to rebuild my 82 430WR engine. They were cheap off eBay and all you have to do is remove the reduction web to install the 430 crank. I think the set I got was $50 and the case set is in excellent shape. You are best to stay with matched case set as you can see from the picture above they were machined together as a set at the factory
