  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Check Fork Springs..

AA Class
Hello-
I have some questions for you experts.

How do I check what springs that is installed in the bike? (are there any numers or tricks to figure it out, the stock springs has been replaced on my bike and I would like to know what those sprigs are)

Can the fork oil be the culprit in the stiff front, mabyme exessive amount or wrong viscosity?
Can the fron oil & spring be replace without removing the spring from the bike?

What forks are on the bike?

Not sure on how to identify springs but someone here can ...

The oil amount does contribute to the feel of the forks and adding or removing oil, adds or removes air from the chamber and this will effect the feel to some degree but real harshness may be caused by something else ... Oil viscosity plays here also but maybe to a smaller degree ... But, these are 2 places you can try before you have to reach deep in the wallet ...

Setting the sag on front and rear needs to the starting point ... This process will help identify if your springs are in the ball park or not ... After that, oil levels can be played with to smooth out the ride ... After a few other things, the PROs will need to be called in if you are wanting a still different ride ..

These are the words of a non-expert but I do ride a Husky most days ... :)

Thanks.
Given my 222 lbs perhaps the stock springs are weak, but anyway I think that changing everything back to stock would be a good option .
On my rough track and given my novis status perhaps it would be the best gearing, at least until I learn to get the throttle up a bit..
What do you think?

Thanks.

What do you think?

222 is a little heavy but workable .... Measure UR front sag ... You might be blowing through the top few inches of the fork and hitting the MID stroke way too early..

Springs just hold the forks up as a starting point for the dampening action of the forks .... Are you getting alot of fork sliding? Bottoming out any? There is ~11.5" of travel there to use...

How much fork are you using and when is it harsh? What harshness are you talking about exactly?

You can always open the clickers up a few clicks ... record where they are now so you can return there if you want to later ...

What bike are you riding?

hello,
the spring preload, where can i find the standard value?
