  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Clutch fluid?

What bike? Mine says Mineral Oil Only on it. Magura clutch on a 630. Brake fluid would eat the seals.

The brembo clutch master on my SMR says to use Dot4 fluid. Use whatever your M/c cap says.

NO! you can't use DOT 3, 4, or 5. If it says Mineral oil then thats it, it can be found at the drug store if need be, but the MC type has additives in it. I was in a pinch once and found it at Walgreens. Use the MC stuff ASAP.

DItto that! I read threads where people said that they had good results with drug store mineral oil, but when I used it, the oil got all cloudy and weird right away. I switched back to Magura Blood right away.

When the slave cylinder fails that oil goes into the crankcase, you must use something that wont harm the motor. I have used ATF with no problems.

I use plain mineral motor oil, works perfectly, stays clean and if by chance it somehow leaked into the motor it would cause no harm.

I've used drug store mineral oil, but in colder temps (below 70F) it's a little thick and clutch is hard to modulate. I've successfully used baby oil and never had an issue these past 3 years (2007 SMR 450/TC 250). Magura blood is rare here and damn expensive -$35 for 200cc.

My buddy has an 11TE310 and has a Brembo Clutch (brake fluid DOT4/same as brakes)
My 09TE450 has a Magura Clutch (mineral oil/magurablood/atf/fork oil)

as stated earlier, Always use what it says on the cover, but know you can supplement magura blood with other things as stated (just not brake fluid!!! and vice/versa)
