• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Clutch stack tolerance

Husqvarna
AA Class
Does anyone have the dimensional tolerances for all 11 plates stacked together?

ie 1.062-1.090 or metric equivalent.

Is Barrnet the only manufacturer ?

My application is for a 1981 430 CR

Thanks guys

The origional ones look like sureflex to me. I couldn't tell you if there is an importer or if they have more options than the ones for 85-86 wr and xc 250 they list on their european catalog. Those probably are the same stack thickness but one more of each. I only bought one set (oem)for the 87-88 everything else has been mix and match. I would try and not use barrnet if at all possible.

You could try and email them and see if they respond.

We have given up trying to deal with Surflex!

Don't worry about the plate thicknesses and / or how many plates, the key is that the overall stack height is right. I put an article on the hva site (under NEWS) about what is important...

Thanks Andy,That is what i am looking for,the tolerance for the overall stack height of all 11 plates.

The 360 to 450 would be an earlier design. Your 81 430 plates both the metal and the friction ones would be the same size and notching as the 85-86 one in the catalog. The 87-88 has six springs and has a bigger outside diameter, not sure about the inside. It seems to me the plates got thinner and one more of each at some point, there has been discussion on here as to changes over time to make feel different. The half round thing that pushes the rod changed at some point as well.

I have some of what I suppose is the pressure plate, the aluminum thing with the spring pockets which is worn down as a metal plate might and have used a better one from something else, never really paid much attention to wear in the bottom of the clutch basket. I would think ideally one would want the basket as full as possible without anything coming out too far as the lever on the top of the engine moves as far as possible. Whether if you had a little less and shimmed the springs as some stuff seems folks have is acceptable. The sureflex ones have more grooves to float particles out than the barrnet ones. The Norton you have pretty close to the same choice sureflex or barrnet or stock sintered bronze. The bronze have the best feel and the saying goes will last forever but slip for ever. The barrnet ones upon arrival seemed to have more transmission breakange and the sureflex is a good compromise. They also have much more slots for worn off material to escape. Sorry I can't tell you how thick the stack should be. I kind of figure steel metal plates make less worn off micro particles than aluminum.
