I have, in my possession a 82 430XC, which I'm thinking of buying. The bike is in pretty good shape for its age. The owner has let me bring it home to check it out. I have done the usual things that you do to bikes that have set. I've cleaned the carb, tank and checked for spark.
The bottom line is I can't get it to start. So I checked the compression and after about 8 kicks 80LB. is all there is. Not being a 2ST tuner my question is: Is there anything special that I should do when checking it? I did remove the slide, what about the reed valve?
My understanding is that these motors a known to have crank seal problems. Will that effect compression?
I have read that this model is worthy of spending some time and money on because they can be made to run and handle very well. This is why this bike interests me. What about shop manual? Thanks
