  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Cracked Case!!! Can I fix it?

I will take some pictures tomorrow but I just bought an 2004 husqvarna 450 smr with a cracked outer right side case. The previous owner said when he kickstarted it the kick arm broke and cracked the case. There is a ton of jb weld surrounding the crack so I don't know what it looks like. I am hoping to find a used part or have this fixed. So I am wondering if it can be welded? Is it aluminum or pot metal? Dealer said the new part was like 900 so a new one is kindof out of the question. Thanks. And yes this is my FIRST POST****************************************!!! But hey only paid 2k for the bike and it runs like a champ.

I cracked mine on my '05 and paid less than $200 from MotoXotica, you might want to call them and check thier price. (707) 446-4282

Is it the actual case or the big clutch cover? If it is just the clutch cover, I would think the fix would not be that expensive. The cover where the kick starter goes into will come off easily. Just remove the kick start lever, remove the bolts around the perimeter of the cover, pay attention to where the bolts go, and take the cover off. You should then be able to determine the extent of the damage.

I don't know what it is**************************************** There is the Engine case wich splits in two halves then there is an outer case and then the covers. I forgot to get a pic but if you look at the one on the top you can see some nasty orange silicone over the kick start seal. that is where it is cracked.

Juice, Im pretty sure its on the clutch side cover, not the case. You should have my number in that PM on SMJ, send a pic and we'll verify it.

My dad's 2000 TE410E was dropped in Mexico back in 2003. There was a 1 inch X 1 inch hole on the left side cover. Found a beer can and cut it to fit over the hole and used JB weld. That was 8 years ago. It's lasted this long with no trouble. I even have a new cover but hey if It ain't broke don't fix it.

if your outer or inner case is broken do to the kicker. you have a bent shaft as well,
if you buy a new or used cover, it will break that one as well, you have to update the kickstart assembly as well as replace the cover.
and you still may have troubles down the road, if the bike cough stalls, it will bust the cases...trust me,,iv been here before.

Boy your full of great news**************************************** The kick start assembly has been removed. The electric start works just fine for me. I'm thinking I can live with a small oil leak. It is a non stressed part and isn't getting worse. I went to the husky dealer yesterday and they had several bike in on repare with the same problem. I am considering buying a new used motor on another site. That would be the cheapest option. Plus then I would have a back up motor.
