• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Yep... I went from a 400 to a 500. The cases on the original 400 turned out to be crap..!! Found a 500 and tore it down...unfortunately...I did number on one of the bolts getting it off the head.

If you have some....I will purchase.. Let Me know.

did you need the nut or the bolt?
the bolt is the same as a 400 the nut is unique to the 500

I am doing a top end job on a 1987 430XC, and when I was putting it back together, one of the cylinder studs (approx. 7.5" long) broke before reaching 29ft-lbs torque. Halls didn't have one, and I really didn't want to go with a used one, so I am having some machined. Most of the cost is in set-up at the shop, so 1pc is no more than a dozen. I'll have some extra's for sell if anyone is interested.

the importance of checking the studs can't be overstated
but undamaged good ones will work, I see some that are damaged from coolant, those are the suspect ones to me

I checked the part numbers to see if there was a problem with compatibility and it appears there may be. Your 87 shows a part number, for that stud, of 16-11-710-01. My 85 500 shows a part number of 16-11-883-03.

Further the studs for the 85 and 86 have the same part number. Something happened in 87....wonder what's the difference.

it's even weirder than that, look at the numbers harder 883-04 vs 883-03, but they use the same nut
what I don't get is there are 2 different studs used on 400, 430 and 500 in the strangest order a 430XC and a 500CR use the same and a 500XC and 430CR use a different one, try to figure that one out
my guess is a corrosion issue and they came up with a couple of different fixes, just how and where they use them makes no sense whatsoever
