  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Dashboard electrics?

A Class
Hi there,
The electrics on my 2009 TE510 have stopped on the dash. No lights, no display, nothing. Everything else looks fine, the bike starts and runs, the fuel pump does its thing.

I've checked the wiring harness and fuses, but I am running out of other places to look for a fault. Any suggestions?

This happened to me this past weekend (2011 TE 310). It was a 20 A fuse. Maybe just change out each one, one at a time, with a good one. Sometimes it can be hard to see that they are burnt out plus the in and out can clean up the contacts a little.

Ok thanks. Just to be clear, you mean one of the three fuses under the seat. You're right, I only visualised them, I will test then properly. Thanks heaps.

My 2011 has a fuse behind the headlight, mounted to the left side of the speedo/odo. Little red 10 amp fuse I think. Not sure what it is for but I will look it up.

I went to have another look at the fuses under the right side of the seat and before I really did anything, the dashboard electrics started working. Magic.

although in this instance I'd suspect some sort of water/crud ingress somewhere. maybe in the dash itself?

Parted/cracked/separated fuse where you can't see it without a magnifying glass, replace all your fuses.

My '09 TE510 just did the same thing. Dash died, lights died, but started by push button and ran fine. Pulled over and pulled all 3 fuses, all looked great. Considered that they were 6 years old, so I went to the auto parts joint and picked up new fuses. Replaced the 20amp fuse first and everything works great. Old one still doesn't look blown, but obviously is. I replaced the other two 15amp fuses just for fun. Hope this helps!
