• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Differences between 2079 and earlier engines

I have what I believe is a 1981 250CR 2079 engine. The cylinder studs are wider on these cases, and earlier model 250CR cylinders like the 2065 don’t fit.

The side covers are the same and the engines look identical other than that.

My question is:

Are the internal parts (crank, transmission, ect..) the same?

Could I get 2065 cases and put the 2079 internals in them?

The 2079 cylinders seem to be difficult to find…

The numbers I listed where the engine numbers (not the year). These can be found at this webpage: http://www.huskyclub.com/model.htm

As you will see, my 1979 250CR engine has engine model number 2079. The studs on these case are spaced further apart. And though it appears everything else is the same on the earlier models like the 2065 (1978 250CR), the studs are different. The 2065 cylinder will not fit the 2079 cases. But since the earlier model case covers interchange (2079 with 2065), I am asking if any of the other parts like the crank and/or transmission will interchange between these two model engines (2079 & 2065).

Go_Navy, it looks like some of the parts are interchangeable back from 81 based on what I see in the Parts PDF most of which can be found in the Vintage Tech Forum. I have 78 through 83 parts PDF's, if you don't see what you need in the Tech Forum, PM me and I will e-mail all of them to you.

Whether they are 100% interchangeable, I don't know. Hopefully some of the other vintage experts here will weigh in on the compatability.

Good luck.

Thanks MotorHead... Now can anyone help Go_Navy with his question reagrding the internals on the 2065 ID# engine and the 2079 ID# engine ?

I usually check all involved parts catalogs from Hall's and cross reference part numbers between the involved models I believe Husqvarna maintained part numbers for a part regardless of model applied to until the part was revised. If the parts for the transmission details have matching numbers between the years for the 2065 and 2079 engines then thet are interchangable. If numbers do not match, then that is when someone who has done it need to speak up

Also the 2079 engine was for a 1981 250CR, 1979 used the 2065 engine as well as the 1978

I appreciate the help. I am having a lot of fun with these Husky's. I have an '83 250CR that I am building, an ML and MM frame. And the 2079 Engine. I am leaning towards using the MM frame and the 2079 engine. But apparently top ends for this model are hard to come by. I am also considering just putting a 390 engine in it.

Wiseco supports pistons to 4th oversize on 250 engines. If sleeving is needed LA Sleeve is the best known source. Then you can start at even the bore size for the 240 so you can get more piston oversizes as it common to go up 2 sizes when overbore is needed.
