• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Dirt tyres for SM610

I've seen a lot of different info on the best tyres to use on the 610 for taking on dirt. I think from memory it's Woodschick? who's probably done the most actual research in this area.

I don't have much in the way of area's to ride off-road round here (atleast legally) but would like to do some light off-road work.

The main (read stupid, but funny) reason for my question is i'm planning on keeping a set of dirt tyres in my garage in case it snows again this year, so if i wake up to snow all over the roads (max of 1 foot) i'd rather have some grip than my usual Pilot Road 2's.

Has anyone else used Dirt tyres on the SM610 in snow?

If so i'd love to know how you got on. I'm not looking at doing anything else to the bike like changing the suspension settings or the front brake. I would have bought the TE had i wanted it like that. It's simply just for a giggle every so often.

Woodschick words are as follows:

I'm running a Continental TKC80 on the rear and a Pirelli MT21 on the front. The Pirelli is a rear but it works ok. I'd rather have something more aggressive for the rear but I've yet to find anything better that will fit. This is just a mild dualsport set-up for me, though. You've seen what I do with it. Yeah, I've ridden trails and gnarly stuff on it, but only because it was fun. I wouldn't want this set-up as my only dirt option, that's for sure.

I'm planning on running Avon Distanzia's once I wear out my Dunlop's. They seem to get pretty good reviews for light off-roading, but I'm not sure how they would work in snow. Woodschick's setup seems like it would work better.
 
606 is a decent tyre for road legal uses. for dirt only, i use bridgestone 404 rear 403 front.. awsome combo and stick like crap to a blanket !

Were do you find these in 17" rim size? :confused:

K270 could work for light duty.
